I am trying to gert the screen shots to look clear in these word docs so I can convert them to PDF

When I make the docs they look all blurry :(

I used photo shop to drop the reselution and to do the capture (Print screen).

Then I put them in the document. IS there a way to to make these look better?

THE DOC

I also have a linux computer sitting here BUT the document must be able to be viewed on a WIN 2k/XP system. Hell I have some folks still on 98SE. ;)

PDF with bigger screen resilution

with 800X600 res.

We have Adobe acrobat BUT I have no idea how top make a PDF from scratch.

The blurryness seems to come from the shrinking of the image I think and is being multipied by the WORD crappy image holding.

crop just the important window and add the text manually in word itself. That should save you from having to resize an entire screen and shopuld cut down on the blurriness.

The issue is you are trying to squeeze a full screen of legible text into a small area and still have it be sharp. What you need to do is crop only the part you want/need.

OK HOW ;)

Is there a sharpen setting?

It's cool that We buy expensive software. I would like a little training however;)

Should I redo the screen shots and save them as PSD files?

Sorry, I don't know. I've only used Adobe Photo Shop 3 (or some small version number) it came with my camera. I remember that there was a button you could use to shapen the image.

When you print it out it will look very sharp. Not what you're asking though, I know.

you could rotate the image so that it is landscape, then you can enlarge the images to 1 image per page.

I currently have them IN JPEG.

The one is fairly easy and I can do it no sweat.

The other is eight screens.

Also I am going to have to add the company logo and stuff (header and footer) as well as make all the other docs that have this issue the same.

I am gonna be a busy bee I think ;)

I hate being the only one willing to try and do things around my job sometimes :)

OK so I ditched word and went with publisher.

Then I printed to PDF and now I have done the three shots and they do look alot better.

I am going to redo the shots in 800X600 though. but at this point it looks ALOT BETTER.

The really odd this is when viewing the PDF In acrobat the top logo is totally screwed :Q But in reader it looks fine and it prints good.

Completed?

Why are you capturing the entire screen?

Use alt-Print screen to capture only the active window.

Don't use JPG, use something lossless - Windows BMP is fine. Since your final document will be PDF you don't need to worry about file sizes yet. Give Acrobat the best possible images to work with. Don't edit the images - Your source is fine, why would you edit them to look good on your (likely crappy/poorly adjusted) monitor?

Also, quit putting your instructions inside the image.

Word will work just fine for what you're doing, publisher really isn't necessary.

Word screws up the image and makes it "blurry" I am capturing the entire screen because That is what sales wants.

I am now saving them in PHG format and taking the shots at 800X600.

Just got done with the Bosses on this and they like it. I am going to be busy though redoing all the docs related to this Piece of equiptment.
They liked the 800X600 screen shots which really sucks for me because All the shots I have are much higher ;)

As for the instructionsa inside the image is that considered a bad thing to do?

I am alos going to make the text box have a slight GREY hue to it so that it is easy to see that it is different for the screen ;)

In photoshop (which I don't have right now) there is a Save As... or Export As... option to save it as a PDF as well, if you want to create individual PDFs.

As long as Word is not forced to re-size the image to make it fit on the page, it will look fine. There is nothing inherent to Word that makes things blurry, forcing Word to fit an 800x600 screenshot into a <6.5" width is making things blurry.

Capture only the necessary information, you can show it at 100% size, the document will be clearer & easier to read. The vast majority of your screenshots are wasted space, you can use that space MUCH more effectively.
