At first I wasn't going to post a poll but decided, why not. A while ago one of my friends insisted that I sit and watch the movie fear and loathing in las vegas. It was really really great and creative, etc.

I think it was utter crap. Perhaps you have to have some experience with drugs to truly get it, and since I have none maybe it just wasn't cool to me but is to drug users, present or future? What do you all think? Good or bad? If you want when you do rate it, let us know if you've used any drugs similar to whats in it (we can exclude pot) at some time in your life. My theory is that drug users identify with it, and others on the whole dont. Lemme know!

I saw it about a year ago. I thought it was pretty funny, and Johnny Depp did a good acting job portraying that he was on all those diff. drugs. I was *cough* stoned *cough* at the time so that probably had something to do with it.

I have to admit, I thought it was pretty dire as well! Considering the good reviews it received, I was very disappointed.

good dialogue in it even if the movie as a whole was disappointing.

Hunter S. Thompson is a psychotic wacko who DOES write amusing political commentary. And his boook on the Hell's Angels was worth reading. "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" was one extended drug trip - boring. He USED to be damned funny, insightful, and creative. Or maybe I just sobered up. ;) If you want to read something of his that's worthwhile, read "Better Than Sex: Confessions of a Political Junkie" or "Hell's Angels: A Strange and Terrible Saga". Any of his early political stuff is entertaining.

Soybomb, I agree that you really should have tried some of the drugs that he was taking before you saw the movie otherwise you really wouldn't know if he was acting or if that's what really transpired on those drugs.:D

But when Idgit boy put that briefcase in his lap going down the interstate with the top down and then opened the coke container like he was going to do a few lines and all the coke in it was blown into the desert I laughed so hard I thought I'd die!:p

But don't be too hard on your friend, hell I talked a couple of my friends into watching "The Lair of the White Worm". I loved it and they can't quit giving me hell over it.:| Go figure.

Other than pot I've done only shrumes once.

I also found this movie very boring. Some parts were neat but to be honest with you I quit half-way through. It was a "I have better things to do" decision.

I liked it a lot! For me it more disturbing when I was sober than under the influence. In fact I want to go as Raoul Duke for Halloween.

I saw it once when I was on a mixture of hallucinogens, and I thought it was incredible.....Saw it a few months later when I had nothing more in me than a little caffeine and I thought it was decent but not great.

I thought it was funny because it just kept being absurd all the way through. Its fun when you don't have to play by the rules of reality.

A great post. Said it all. Thompson was great the way "Cheech & Chong" were if you get my meaning.

"Leaving Las Vegas" was a better flick and about drugs also.
