Poll: F-22 Raptor or F-35?

Two different planes, two different purposes... much like the F-15/F-16 mix. F-15 was the air (and air only) superiority fighter in low numbers while the F-16 was the jack of all trades, master of none fighter/bomber in high numbers.

The F-35 isn't really a fighter. However, the F-35 and F-22 are both outstanding and completely unlike any other aircraft out there.

Just for coolness factor, I'd have to go with the F35 Joint Strike Fighter. Vertical takeoff, hover, is just cool.

but they don't make that option to all F35 planes...

I think only the F-35B has the verticle takeoff/landing capability.

The F-35C has supersonic capibility and F-35A is the more capable fighter?

Well Assumming the F35 has vertical lift capability. A bit more fun than go fast and kill everything at your whim 🙂

the 1st F-35 ever build had all 3 capabilities, I wonder what made the lockheed guys change it up?

Too expensive for every plane. Someone like the marines need vertical lift, but not necessarily the extra speed. Some air bases won't need vertical lift. It's all about customizing one weapons platform instead of needing 3 entirely different planes.

yes, but what won them the contract was their last ditch effort when they showcased the test plane x-35 to take off vertically, go supersonic, then land vertically. That's what made it an amazing plane. when they cut it up, it was no longer better than the Boeing plane IMO.

F-22, first introduced in the 1990s, is still far more superior in performance than the F-35.

However, F-35 comes in more functions, which could be useful sometimes.

what. F-35 is a far cheaper aircraft. it's a jack-of-all-trades for a low price. F-22 is more stealthier and deadlier. F-35 is nowhere near as capable as the F-22 in anything. F-35 is just a plane to mass produce.

Apple and oranges.

Each has a specific mission; the other may be able to back it up at a lower performance level.

Whne you try to make an all in one, performace suffers greatly.

ie. F4, F16 are two recent examples.
