What do you think of extended service plans at places like Circuit City or Best Buy or other retail chains? Do you a) always get them b) only on high-price items c) only if you hear the product breaks alot or d) never?

Personally, I get it on everything(when I have the money:)), I've bought 4 and used 2 already, 1 I defintily won't use, the other I still might. How bout you?

EDIT: I changed the title to extended warrenties...ESP is more of a CC word, extended warrenty is more general :)

Over enough cases and enough examples statistically speaking you lose money on extended warranties. However, they do buy piece of mind and if you're just an 'unlucky' person maybe its worth it afterall

Only if its on the expensive side and has a reasonable chance of needing repair or replacement in that timeframe. Didn't get one on my car, cd player, speakers, monitor, etc. Did get one on my HT receiver, first computer system (not worth it), tv (why?), an extra yr on the expensive VCR spent almost $200CDN to fix it in yr 3 out of warranty. I think you get the idea.

Overall its not beneficial to the consumer, but it does buy some peace of mind if you're the worrying kind, or too poor to fix it if it breaks.
