[POLL] - Ever been Skydiving?

I went once many years ago. Did Static Line which is where you have a line attached to the parachute so when you jump it pulls the cord automatically for you.

Floating down was a blast.

Been jumping for almost 6 years now. Started out in the Army at Airborne school, then just kept it up. Have about 75 or so jumps (static/Halo/civilian "for the hell of it" jumps).
Haven't jumped recently though, now that I have a new baby due in a few short months, i'm limiting my risks (more like being forced by the wife to stop).

I jumped out of a perfectly good airplane once... for the LAST time, unless that thing is going down faster than it should for a safe landing.

I loved it, and I learned why people skydive. It's for the rush, and it was that, and it was great! 🙂

I also stood on a stage with an audience of 7000+, just me and my partner and our guitars. If you stand up in front of that many people and knock 'em out, it's the same rush. If you die, you die just as bad as if the chute fails... but you live to tell about it.

Later that same day, I heard a loud bang. I looked up and saw the entire jump group bailing out from a very low altitude, very quickly and watched the jump plane go down in a field with a smoking engine. Fortunately, nobody was hurt, but that was just luck. :Q

The most important thing I learned is, you never have to put your physical body in jeopardy for the rush. There are plenty of other ways to do it that are at least as effective without the possiblity of losing all chance for another one. No matter how good it may feel, it ain't worth dying for, even once. 😎

A few times. In college one of my roommates was ROTC and was going to jump school over the summer. In the spring he dragged a bunch of us out to do it so that he would have some experience before going to training. He'd rather have choked with us than with his army buddies. The local airport had good beginners specials and if you added extra jumps beyond the first one they were really cheap. 6 guys went, all 6 went through with it (it's scarier to wimp out than it is to jump) and 4 of the 6 made 3 jumps that first day.

Glad I did it, it was cool and a rite of passage that everyone should experience. Too expensive to do it as a regular hobby though.

Hehe 😛

I want to go... maybe I will this summer. I wish I could go on my own though instead of having someone strapped to my back.

I did the same thing. An airport within walking distance from my home used cater to jumpers.

I would in a heartbeat, but alas, I am not 18 yet. The first chance I get, I am dragging whoever will go, and jump with me. One question I do have. How does one go about solo jumping? Can you do it right after you do the jumps where you are attached to the instructor, or must you pass some test?

Sort of back in '89 when I fell off a 3 story roof while roofing it,hit the toe board it snapped in half and sky diving I was, wish I would have had a chute....
Other than that never..
