Poll: Epson 1240 or Canon 1220?

I can't decide. Is the Epson 1240 that much better than the Canon 1220? That sleekness and lack of a power cord on the Canon are really sweet, so for a marginal difference in quality I would take the Canon. But, if the difference is signficant, I'd have to go with the Epson. Any thoughts?

I've used a range of scanners, HP's, Canon's, Epson, Umax and the like...
Epson was a noticeable difference. Not just in scan quality, but speed, software and the like. C'mon, you are buying the scanner to scan right? Not for how cool it looks...

Epson baby!

The Epson Perfection 1240U has received some really great reviews.

Some reviews mention the Photo version, it's the same but with a photo/negative adapter.

Here, here and here.

I am buying it to scan. I have an old scanner that is soooo slow, and while I always thought the quality was okay before, after seeing what the new scanners can do, I realize it just doesn't cut it. So I do want quality. But deskspace is a premium, and being able to carry one into work easily would be nice too. So, if there isn't much of a drop off in quality, I'd go with the canon. But if there is a significant difference, then Epson it is. Right now, I'm leaning toward the Epson. I could always get both ;)

Speed on the Canon is decent, but not really fast. As for quality, I'm happy with my N1220U, but I don't need spectacular quality (nor have I used scan resolutions above 300dpi....I know I'm wasting it...:D:p)

I use both very frequently and here is my conclusions on these 2 scanners:

Epson: It's VERY fast. Boxing design, but like someone else mentioned... who cares? It got fairly warm as I scanned countless photos back to back which I'm not sure if it should be of concern.

Canon: It's average in speed compared to other scanners. Takes up very little space. No power cord!!! which I love since it's one less cable to clutter my area.

The quality of the scans were identical as far as I can tell in all the modes. But then, I'm not the picky type when it comes to color integrity nor do I zoom in 1000% to catch the minor defects.

After using both scanner extensively, I eventually ended up getting the Canon because of its small size, no power cord, and similar image quality. The only minus is that it's slower than the Epson, but if you haven't used an Epson scanner before, you will think the Canon is pretty fast.

Well... I opted for quality of convenience. The Epson was a bit cheaper too.
