Neither, really. But if I had to choose one or the other, I'd say truck, based solely on the fact that it does have a bed. I've always considered them more in their own class.

I WOULD say car, but have you ever driven one? Those things have got some power so based on that I'll have to give it the benefit of the doubt and say truck since it does have a bed. And I wouldn't say it's in its own class anymore with the Subara Baja now out there - although the Baja's bed is much smaller since it's a 4-door.

That's one of my favorite parts of the movie. Actually pretty much the whole portion where Brad Pitt's in Mexico is great. If they could've just cut out all the Julia Roberts portions filmed in Las Vegas it would've been a much better film.

It's totally based on the Malibu, it just has a bed instead of a back seat and a trunk. And it can't haul weight like a truck, only like a Malibu.

Therefore I say it's a car.....with a bed. ;)

Now was the Subaru Brat a Foreign El Camino???

My dad had one back in the day while he was in his 20's. He said it was a lot of fun. He bolted in two more seats in the back facing the other way (reverse) and used to go out with the guys and stuff. I'm not sure of any corilation between GM and Subaru back then but it just might have been a foreign El Camino.

Was Nissan (Datsun) even importing trucks to the US when the El Camono was introduced?

Guys guys guys. Let me teach you some Australian. It's a UTE, short for utility ( we Aussie like to abreviate everything;)). Very popular in Australia. Look up Holden on the web. Lesson over.:)

If I remember correctly, the Brat had those 2 seats in the back area from the factory. They had little handles on the side of the seat to hang on to when the Brat reached it's top speed of 20MPH ;)

OK, the first one I remember was the Datsun 1000 from the very late '50s, early '60s.
