Poll: Earthquakes vs Hurricanes

So I read the Cali poll, several people complained about the earthquakes like there was major devastation every year. FYI, major earthquakes occur but once a decade or so. Hurricanes in the East coast, however, once a year with major flooding and destruction.

Take your pick.

earthquakes are fun!

i hate 'em really...they wake me up when i sleep and that pisses me off

Most earthquakes are minor shakers. No real damage. For some reason, people from the East Coast seem to think everyone dies all the time from them.

I'd rather that both occurred with increased frequency. Then, during the cold winter months, after a 3 foot snowfall, I can relax on my couch with a nice cup of hot chocolate and watch videos of the CNN coverage of the disasters or watch re-runs of the disasters on the weather channel and other channels that show it.

I'd rather the earthquake... shake a bit, get it over with, get on with your life. Hurricanes last all day, and make it crappy so you can't go out!

I have been waiting for a big blizzard (or blizzid as we call em up in these parts 😛 ) to get me out of a couple days of work tho.

I moved from FL to CA, and I always have this argument with my wife. She doesn't want to move to FL due to teh hurricanes. I keep telling her that at least a hurricane won't wake you up at 3:30am by crumbling your house down around you while you are standing there in your underware.

At least a hurricane gives you at least 1 week's notice before it hits you, and in the end you only have yourself to blame for being there when it hits.

Hurricanes don't strike the same place every year, and there isn't even a major storm that makes Continental US landfall every year. I live in South FL, and we didn't get any major storms this past year.
This page shows major storm tracks through Florida over the past 80 years or so, hardly 1 every year.

This coupled with the advance warning of a hurricane makes me have to stick with living in a hurricane zone over an earthquake zone.

I live in SoCal and have never experienced a hurricane... I guess I prefer earthquakes, but I'd have to be in a hurricane to really decide. All the flooding and water damage from hurricanes must suck real bad though...

I've been through several hurricanes (SC, Fl) and would much rather be subject to them than earthquakes (only been in one) because I know when they are coming and how strong they are. Like earthquakes most hurricanes don't cuase a lot of damage but at least you know when the "big one" is coming. Plus its the only time you can really surf on the east coast.

You have plenty of warning with a hurricane, with an earthquake you don't know. The earthquake probably more dangerous to my safety. If I lived on the coast the hurricane would probably be a bigger danger to my house, then earthquakes.

put some clothes on wind chill isnt that big a deal. i was just skiing at Sugarloaf in Maine on thursday it was -15 wind chill was -50. skiing was awsome. omly like 20 people out there on a very big nice mountian

Poll: Earthquakes vs Hurricanes

Having gone through several of each, i'd rather face both at the same time, rather than go through another one of those monster sandstorms in the Arab deserts. Those things will f**k you up.
