So yeah, like the title says I've been playing Earthbound recently. I bought it back when I first had my SNES and it got me into RPGs, leading me to such gems as FFVII, Chrono Trigger and KOTOR. Just wanted to see who else loves it.

By the by, anybody ever played/beaten Earthbound Zero? (Obviously on an emulator, since there was only one English NES copy ever made) I think I'm gonna play it after I finish up my latest run through the SNES version.

Because absolutely no one on the internet lives in Japan or speaks Japanese.

Well then it wasn't called Earthbound Zero, was it? It was called Mother. :p

Yeah, I dig. I just found it highly unlikely anybody played the Japanese version who would post here.

Earthbound and Chronotrigger are the best ever made.

You can come buying, you can sell too. I, Mr. Saturn -- BOING! -- can do all for you! :D

Hear hear, though I've yet to play through FFVI. I hear that's flippin' amazing as well.

Isn't it funny how the best RPGs are older ones? Maybe it has something to do with a lack of flashy graphical capabilities, forcing the games to be sold by their stories?

Love earthbound, nothing like fighting evil cars and fridges.

Plus the whole Blues Band story was cool.

No, because FF IX looked very good for the PS, and is a great game, too. I do think they are often putting the eye and sound candy above actual play, though.

I think Nostalega has more to do with it then anything else. 10 years from now we'll reminese about how games like Kingdom Hearts, just like we now reminese about games as young as FF7 and Half-Life.

Am I the only one who thinks 9 is the best of all the FF games (followed closely by 7 or 6 depending on my mood)?

Yes, you really are. :p

FFIX had a good magic/item system, but the story left much to be desired. I found myself not caring. It was the only FF I ever willingly stopped playing because I got tired of it.

But this is stuff that belongs in another thread. Not good practice to hijack one's own thread. :p

I don't think so. I didn't have the patience for CRPGs until a few years ago, and have yet to play one not on an emulator. Chronotrigger and Eartbound are newer to me than Quake III.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, Earthbound is quite possibly the best game ever made. It is definetly in the top 3.
