If you've played it, did you kill the babes in the cocoons as per their wishes or did you leave them?

And why were they IN those cocoons anyway?
 
Always killed them. I also killed the strippers too, after they gave me what I wanted 😉

Damn I have a huge urge to play that game now

I can't believe they didn't allow you to "mess around" with the nude ladies in the cacoons🙁

The audio has this bad tendency not to work well on modern systems.

Run it in VMWare, or build up a Pentium-class box. Those classic gaming urges are worth the hassle of digging up those components.

The aliens were using them as hosts, I seem to recall. You couldn't save them, but you could put them out of their misery 😉





BTW, I still play Duke 3D a couple times a week over the phone with my buddy 😀 I have a couple maps I made, as well.

As for the cocoons, well they got blasted in any number of ways including the pipe bomb guantlet!

Never got it to work on 2000, I don't use XP.

I have an old socket 7 box with a k6-2/400 and Win98SE that I use 🙂 It's MORE than fast enough for Duke!


BTW, I'll be playing against my bud later on tonight 😀

 
ohhh, you play atomic version. The expander is ok, but when they have a jetpack and can run away, the chaingun is best (and cheap)
 
The pistol is surprisingly effective too, esp when they don't know where you are!

No need for VMWare or an old DOS box. The source code for Duke Nukem 3D was released by 3D Realms in April 2003. There have been ports developed allowing you to play the game in XP.

JonoF's Duke Nukem 3D port: Haven't tried this one.
Rancidmeat port: Tried this one. Worked very well.
Linux port: No linux box.

Want to play online? Use DukesterX to set up the games.

Not enough? There's also a (buggy) port for Xbox. Do a search for "Duke3d X" at Google.
 
Ahhhh, the memories. I remember when I got that game. I played single player for a couple days then I got Total Entertainment Network (anyone remember this?) and I played it online all night long a couple nights in a row. It was a blast. Then I got hooked on Quake....
