Mine makes a constant noise. It doesn't bother me at all. In fact, if I have problems sleeping I'll turn on my PC cause the noise is constant and helps me sleep. I used to have a computer that had a harddrive that made a ton of noise while seeking. I couldn't go to sleep with it on because the noise was random.

The whoosh noise made by the fans don't annoy me as much as the noise emitted by the vibration of the casing as a result of all the fans spinning (and that loud whiney mofo WD SE :frown: ). That's why I'm ditching my current case to get an SLK3700AMB which is highly regarded by the folks in SPCR :)

Right now it's not even loud, actually, just that the metallic hum is very annoying. I think I am getting the silent bug those SPCR guys are talking about! :D

Silent + heavily overclocked > Loud + very heavily overclocked :D

hmm, on the antec/chieftec case i have thats close to urs, the fans at low rpm don't contribute to noise much at all, vibration is non factor at such rpm. its the harddrives...yes, the wd 7200rpm high pitch whine that keeps the case from being silent. i could get a silent enclosure or buy a silent drive, but i don't feel like spending at the moment. but relaly, theres no reason why that case cant be quiet.

my problem is that I have to sleep in the same room as my comp, during daytime I dont notice it, but man, it is LOUD when trying to sleep, I got a fancontroller and it's turned all way down (temps rise up to 55°C under high usage) and it still irritates me when trying to sleep. maybe I'm just very picky.

:) Have you considered a power-down when it's not in use?

powering down is not an option obviously.
it's those darn bittorrents that are open in the middle of the night!!!

and yeah. i was never really bothered by noise until i actually started buying silent parts.
once i got my computer really quiet, thanks to the great help of silentpcreview.com, the very little noise coming from my PC bothers me even more than when it was noisy!

these days i spend my nights thinking about an all included watercooling case, with one of the side panels filled with water as the radiator, and ultra quiet pump suspended by elastic, a seasonic 400W super silent PSU. i think this would be enough of a fix until i can afford the zalman tnn500a.

My computer is ten feet from my dishwasher and refrigerator. Anybody got a link to a quiet-dishwasher and quiet-refrigerator site? :Q

;)

Tell you what, I have two Seagate Barracudas in my home rig, a 7200.7 and a IV, and what annoys ME is how slow they are as they tiptoe around trying to be quiet :disgust: Gimme my pair of 15000rpm Seagate Cheetahs from my work rig... oh yes Precious, we hears them, but we doesn't mind it because they are fasssssst. :)

13 fans??? Lord have mercy... maybe Pratt and Whitney or Lockheed Martin can work out a 1-fan solution for you or something ;)

My machine is unbelievably loud. But I use sound-cancelling headsets, so I don't care.

Shouldn't the last option be "In Soviet Russia, you annoy the NOISE!(see results)."

A tube from fridge to dishwasher, run all your fans at 7v. Shazam!

Or maybe BMW could make you a fan? They mad eunbelievably good ones a while ago... Until Pratt&Whitney and BMW agents shot/bombed them up to rid themselves of competition!

eh, the new mac g5 has 9 fans... but they are speed controlled by zone and controlled by o/s for preemptive cooling....:(

damn pc's playing catchup.

but yea, 13 fans without speed controls... unless your forcing air through hepa filters, your just jerkin off:) i force air through furnace filters, but hepa would be quite another thing.

I actually don't care because I do have more important things in life to think about than my pc's noise, lol. If you really don't like the noise, get quieter fans. I sleep with the 2 pcs in my sig in my room, each of them have 4 80mm Antec Blue LED fans that are loud, but they are badass systems and they deserve to have a voice :)

Sorry, but its no way "obvious" that a person would leave their machine hot if it's keeping them from sleeping.

I have more important things to think about than fan noise too but I can think when I'm bothered :p.

The thing is, it's not as simple as just getting quieter fans. I have 4 Panaflo L1As (only running 2 now) and they still bother me. There is a whole lot of finer art/science in silencing your PC. Different people have different tolerance for noise, and my tolerance just went way down. It's good if you are no bothered since = less money spent :)

Go to SilentPCReview to see what I mean. :)

Mine annoys me, yes. But my wooden drawer case is being built now (school and my neighbor's work are slowing progress, nut it's comin').

Well, I have 2 intake fans (one NMB, one Panaflo L1A), and two exhaust fans (this includes the PS, both Panaflo L1A). There is also a NMB on the CPU. All but the CPU and PS are running at 5v. The little fan on my GF4200 is kinda shrill, and certainly more noticable after switching to 5v. The CPU temp only went up 1-2c after switching the three fans to 5v, so it was worth while.

Still, my whole case does hum and is certainly noticable. At least I can finally hear my Barracuda (sp?)... that's a positive sign :)

I think my case should be quieter than it is considering what I've done, but until I get a passive HS for the video card, it's gonna stay like this I have a feeling. Oh well! I'm going to make sure my next case takes 120mm fans.
