Does your job require you to travel to other cities for meetings? When I say other cities, I don't mean neighboring cities (IE San Fran/Oakland or LA/Newport Beach) but far enough away that you would have to fly or drive for several hours.

I'm not required to, but people who choose to get all expenses paid and overtime, and get paid for travel time ... so Its worth it in my case.

Lemme see here....

I'm based out of Cedar Rapids, IA and I routinely (As in a few times a month) travel to

- Dubuque, IA (1:25)
- Des Moines, IA (2:00)
- Madison, WI (3:30)
- Omaha, NE (4:00)
- Sioux Falls, SD (5:30)
- Sioux City, SD (4:30)
- Fargo, ND (9:00)
- Davenport, IA (1:15)

I will start having to fly down to these places shortly:
- Tucson, AZ
- Phoenix, AZ
- El Paso, TX
- Las Vegas, NV
- Santa Fe, NM
- Alberquerque, NM

I've got a pretty good size area of coverage...for one person.

I hope someday when i get a real job after i graduate i can travel, I hear people gripe about it alot though.

If you want to travel, get a job with the guv'ment. I'm going around at least once a month. It's rough on the waistband, though.

It's cool at first, but after a year or two of it, it just starts to really drag. Especially if you want any sort of family life. Plus, driving 8+ hours a day, and putting in 8+ hours of work on top of that just blows. But hey, gotta do what I gotta do to get a paycheck.

I've already put on over 1000 miles of driving for work since last Thursday. I'll be tacking on another 1000+ miles by next Wednesday.

I have to travel fairly routinely for my job. Most of it is international and its really not as fun as it sounds. Recently I had to go to Mexico City and I can tell you that I saw Mexico flying in and flying out. For me, its work from 7 in the morning until 12 midnight usually. In fact I have a business trip coming up in 2 weeks. I'll be going to Dublin, Rome and Frankfurt. I'll be gone for 2 weeks and flying back on Halloween. Not looking forward to it. :(

They tried sending me to Egypt about a month after 9/11 and I told 'em to kiss my heiny. :p

Yeah, I travel to my home office downstairs.

If it were the real deal... anything more than a few times a year would suck... I wouldn't want to be away from home all that much.

Agreed. I used to look forward to business trips, but now I'd far rather just stay at home.

I usually have to travel a few times a year. It would not suck so much except for the fact that 90% of our clients are on the East Coast and we're based on the West Coast. It's amazing how much flying across NA takes out of you. On the other hand it's great for collecting FFM's

I've had a couple of jobs that were 100% travel (any corporate audit job in a big company will do that to you).

Now I go to Asia about 5-6 times a year plus a trip or two to the East Coast for investment conferences (one to San Diego coming up in November).

Yep.. I'm an engineer. Not a sales engineer, but a designer. I have to travel at least once a month to see customers. Sometimes it is as simple as an hour and a half away by car, but other times it has been 8 hours away by car. We rarely get to fly.

Been slow so far this year, but, a few times at least. Usually for very short time periods.
