Some people say that they can tell the difference between caffeinated drinks and non-caffeinated drinks based on the taste. True or false?

I think it's purely a bad taste, but whatever they do to it there is a DEFINITE taste difference between Diet pepsi and the caffeine free version. I don't know if it would have to be the case, but there is.

That is EXACTLY why I posted this thread. I just bought some caffeine free diet Pepsi and thought it tasted like crap compared to the caffeinated version. My wife, of course, thinks I'm crazy. I also think I can tell the difference between caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee.

Also according to Coke, "The caffeine that is added to Coca-Cola classic, diet Coke and the other products in which it is used is for flavor purposes only."

Source: Direct from the mouths of Coca-Cola

Barqs Root Beer has caffeine in it and I've heard that the caffeine was added just for flavor. This is what prompted me to do the search for the information that I've listed above.

Some of the difference in taste between caffeinated coffee and decaf coffee could also be the hasty process that they use to remove the caffeine from the beans.

Caffeine does have a flavor. The difference in taste btw caffeinated and non-caffeinated beverages is not due to this IMO. The bitter flavor of the caffeine is wiped out by the gross amounts of sugar added. And the part about them adding it just for taste is BS IMO opinion too. Its an addictive drug, they have other reasons for including it...

It's like caffeinated vs. decaf. Any regular coffee drinker can tell the difference.

And of course Coke would say it was flavor, because saying that they put it in to foster caffeine addiction wouldn't go over too well.

I quit caffeine over the summer (and all pop) for that matter, and now only drink it while at work. Mostly stick to water/juice/milk though.

So are you suggesting the adding caffeine to beverages is a government conspiracy to increase the productiveness of society?

no its a corporate conspiracy to addict americans to sugary drugged up drinks. just like the addictive chemical and sugar additives to fast food. likely backed by the healt/pharmaceutical industry as the real money ends up there after the addiction gets the better of your body

now pass me a dr. pepper and pack of marlboros

How is that quitting?

I would say yes to caffeine adding flavor, and the addiction factor.
