I thought it was completely normal untill I spelled it "bolth" when i was in first grade and was told it was wrong so i asked my mom about it and she said it was a family thing. That was a long time ago but I was wondering if anyone else here said it that way too.

Haha, the minute a family member of mine says 'yonder' is the minute I smack them upside the head.

Crick is a word. It is another word for a small, shallow stream. It sounds perfectly normal to me.

I was 18 or so before I realized that holler (to indicate a place) was a mispronunciation of hollow.

Don't forget "are-duh" (meaning "oughta" or "ought to").

No, no I do not. I do, however, commonly lapse into Brittish-isms.

ZV

For some reason, I do the same thing. And I have no idea why. It pisses me off.

Weird. I never knew that. Dictionary.com does indeed say its a variation of hollow...

I never knew that hollow could mean "to urge or call by shouting".

It just doesen't sound right to say "hollow and get the kids, honey"..

lol....
