It seems to me that the term "fried cake" is used only around Rochester, NY. I'm wondering if I'm right. (BTW, a fried cake is often called an "old-fashioned doughnut" and is denser and a little greasier than a regular douhgnut. Whereas a regular doughnut is like glazed French bread, a fried cake is like, well, fried cake.
