Poll: Do You Wear Your Seatbelt?

Gotta wear your seatbelt! It's not only the law but it's a smart thing to do!

Lots of people die because they didn't wear their seat belt...take for instance Derrick Thomas. 🙁 He was a great football player and a great person who often did community service and whatnot- but he got into an accident and wasn't wearing his seatbelt. He flew through the windshield and was paralyzed- he died a few days later. 🙁

I always have and always will wear my seat belt and I will make people put it on when I start to drive- you don't put on the seatbelt, you walk. 😉

always have.

then one time I forget to do it, get pulled over and nailed with 4 tickets, including seatbelt. :|

Definitely, the things save more lives than air bags. It's so automatic that I have gotten 10 minutes into trips sometimes and get freaked because I think I forgot it, but I never have.

Never
I still have the visualazation and memory of the smell of burning flesh as I watched a truck driver burn to death because he could not get his seatbelt off after being broadsided by some high speed punks that punctured the fuel tank. Had he not been wearing his seatbelt as mandated by law, he would be bouncing his grandchildren on his knee today. Instead, his grandchildren bring flowers to his grave once a year.

I'll take my chances. I will not ride in a vehicle, nor drive one that does not have active airbags.

This causes me to be ultra alert when driving, and I use defensive driving skills I learned as a truck driver.

I never used to until a very good friend of mine found out one day. I refused her request to wear it. Then she insisted.

Something snapped and I've warn it ever since.

yes

it feels weird when i drive with no seatbelt, back in california i didnt wear seatbelts, but now i do, to ackward without it

Tripleshot...

You say you'll "take your chances." Your chances are much better WITH the seatbelt than without it. Granted, there may be a few rare occasions when the seatbelt traps the occupant of the vehicle. But for every one of those case, there are probably hundreds where the seatbelt minimized damages from impact, & saved lives.

You say you refuse to ride in vehicles without airbags... Airbags depend on the seatbelt to correctly position the occupant for the airbag. The airbag is practically useless without it's sidekick, the seatbelt.

It's your choice, of course, but if I were you I'd look at the odds again. Taking your chances is fine, but common sense would say to take the option with the best odds.

My car has automatic shoulder belts, which always make me forget to use the lap belt cuz it makes me think i already have a seatbelt on.

I've been driving for a month and a year now. I've already been in 3 wrecks. The first one, which was my fault, I made a left turn and hit a car - I would have gone thru the windshield, breaking both arms if not worse - I was going about 15-20 mph. The airbags did NOT inflate, even though it was a frontal impact for me. They are designed to only inflate above 35 mph.

The second one, a great guy hit my car from behind, totalling it - I would have been shoved right into the steering wheel - the impact broke my seat, and left me sore for a week, but nothing major. He was a great guy cause by totalling my car, I got a new one 🙂

The third one, this bastard ran a red light - and he was uninsured. Unfortunately nobody saw the accident, so it was his word against mine. But because he was uninsured, my insurance company covered me. It was a small wreck, only $2000 or so. :frown:

I will always wear my seatbelt, and whenever I drive anybody else they always have to wear their seatbelt.

erub, you sound like a very lucky person. Are you accident prone even when you're not operating a vehicle? 😛

I were it only if it is a long trip. If it is less than say 10 minites I prolly won't put it on. Not safe I know but thats just what i do.
