both, my friends are split between aim and icq, so consequently, i must use both in order to talk to them online

i like AIM however just to chat and stuff, and ICQ for transfering files since you can send multiple files at a time...something you can't do with AIM...AIM only allows one file at a time or a whole folder.

Same here, I have couple friends use MSN, and another feature about MSN is its integrated Hotmail writing and checking notification.

i used to use icq mainstream, but it's just become so bloated and ineffecient. aim's got a simpler interface and has your list stored online, i never have to keep my list saved or anything when i reinstall. the chat interface is nicer IMO, but i keep both around although i use aim more mainstream. i hated it at first, felt like i was selling out, but then ICQ's owned by AOL anyway so there ya go ;)

the only thing i need more from aim would be a history, which they should eventually incoporate since they're promoting it MUCH more then ICQ, which they pretty much just microsoft'ed. :p

ICQ & AIM, my main gripe bout aim is that you have to keep the message box open or it at least takes up spot on the taskbar, as for icq, i wish they'd go with the dynamic bud lists, but then i guess they don't cause the DB saves history too which aim doesn't...

i wouldnt touch AIM for its shortcomings (no auto-pop up disabling, gay sound effects etc). icq is a huge resource hog and icq spam is pretty annoying. MSN messenger all the way!

aim. it's buggy, crashes, has lots of NT issues, but everybody uses it. best chat interface. but icq for file transfers, it doesn't attempt to cache the damn file before being sent like aim does.

MSN messenger has a neato interface, takes up 2% of system resources; moreover, it crashed on me JUST ONCE and never made me die in diablo2 with that stupid pop up thingy in AIM (my friend had it installed on my computer without my consent, got rid of it as soon as he left)

I mostly use ICQ because almost all of friends use it, thus I need it to talk to them ;)
I use AIM for talking to a few people and like it's simplicity and non-bloatedness

As bloated and irritating as ICQ can be at time it's the only Instant Messaging program I like and the only one I use.

Tried out AIM and MSN but didnt like either of them at all.

My main one is to use ICQ, because even though it is really bloated I still think that it is the best one around. However I must use AIM to talk to my parents and stuff to save on long distince bills. I installed MSN but really didn't like it and I don't use hotmail so that feature never could get used.
