*POLL* Do you use a mouse pad with your OPTICAL mouse?

I am using the best mousepad ever: the free one you get when you sign up for RoadRunner. It is far better than any of those weird plastic or glass ones, like the 3M PMS or the RatPadz. I dont know what it is, but I hate those things with a passion. They just feel so wrong. Cloth has a much better texture, and it seasier on the heel of my hand too.

Using a pad with an optical mouse is like putting plastic covers on your furniture, only it makes LESS sense! Unless your desktop is reflective, it makes NO sense at all. Optical mouse pads... brought to you by the same people that market Monster Cable. Purchased by the same target consumers, no doubt.

You're missing the point:

1) I've had my mouse pad since the days when a Razor was the mouse to have.
2) I much prefer the feel of my Surface 1030 pad to that of my desk. It just doesn't feel right on my desk.
3) I'm not willing to give up the cord clip on my 1030.

It has nothing to do with any marketing.

1) The movement of the mouse across a mouse pad "feels" better than my wooden desk. The desk is too slick.

2) My mouse pad has a wrist rest.

3) Why would I want to fsck up my nice desk by constantly rubbing a piece of plastic against it?

4) My mouse pad was free. Not like I paid for it...

These are the exact same reasons (minus the wrist-rest 🙁) that I am keeping my pad.
Whew...Ornery made me feel...well...small, for a moment. 😱

I'm sorry, I think that's dumb as hell.

I didn't use a mouse pad even when I had a regular wheelmouse, and now I have a cordless optical wheelmouse and I still don't use a mousepad. There wasn't a point before I had this mouse and there still is none. My desk is clean, flat/smooth and both the old and new mouse work perfectly fine the way they are, and I am perfectly comfortable using either one the way they are on this desk with no pad. Never have any aches or pains related to computing, either. Oh, and I also moved from an ergonomic keyboard back to a regular flat/straight one. 😀

I guess not spending countless hours on the comp can help.

i use a mousepad with all my opticals...
1) Out of Habit
2) Dont wanna ruin the finish of my desk
3) I have a cool looking mousepad 😀

Yep, I've had a 3M "Precise Mousing Surface" with a gel wrist rest for a couple of years (since I was using a ball mouse)... mostly I still use it for the wrist rest.

Simple answer is yes because I`m a serious gamer and a good pad is essential ,plus without one my desktop is crap for my optical mouse.

Any serious gamer will be using the Everglide Giganta,Ratpad,fUnc etc type pads.

Roger that zCypher.

I spent a LOT of time trying to get a desk surface suitable for my mouse with mechanical ball. Usually, a clean formica top was perfect. Now, with optical, I don't have to play that game.

Some use a wrist rest, eh? Well, I'm all for ergonomics, but I prefer to use an arm rest, rather than just the wrist.

chieftech makes a wireless (RF) keyboard and mouse for 28 on newegg, works pretty good but would not recommend for gaming, non-optical mouse very smooth, looks like teflon tabs on the bottom to help ease resistance...
