Poll: Do you turn your monitor off when you shut down your PC?

Ok, there's a poll to this thread as well as a question. ;)

When you shutdown your PC, do you physically turn off your monitor (pressing the button on the front) or do you just leave it go into that standby mode ??

Now the question is: If I leave my monitor on after I have shutdown my PC, will that effect the lifetime usage of my monitor ?

It may be a dumb question, but I just need it clearing up for myself.

Thanks

My monitor automatically switches off after 10 minutes of inactivity (no movement off mouse ,keyboard and no moving things on screen)

Yes, I always turn my PC off at night as I can't sleep with the noise. Monitor always gets turned off too as if I don't turn it off the LED on the front blinks constantly which really annoys me if I catch a glimpse of it.

I leave the computers on 24x7, but I always turn the monitors off when I'm not using them. Something tells me they are the most power-hungry part of the whole system.

I don't press the button on the monitor, yet still the monitor is off if the PC is. Guess how?

I always turn the monitor off when I'm not using it too. The electricity bill is large enough allready.

All of my systems stay on 24/7. But if I should turn off the PC then I always turn off the monitor as well.

Just curious, for those who say they turn their's off to conserve electricity, has anyone ever demontrated just how much electricity is being consumed by a normal PC left on 24/7? Is it really a lot? I haven't really been able to tell based on my electirc bill....

3 Monitors...I turn all of them off during the day, but I leave one on overnight so I can see the clock.

No. I just let it put itself into sleep mode until I start my computer up again. It's almost the same as shutting ot off though. I only shut my pc down when I go to sleep anyhow, so it only happens once a day.

Why don't you just go to radio shack and slap in one of those cables that you can plug into the back of the power supply into the monitor so it turns off at the same time?

I usually leave the monitor powered on (it goes into Standby) when I shut my PC off.

The exception being when I know I'm going to be away for a while. Then I'll shut the power off to it.

well, my monitor uses 150 watts. 150W/1000 = .150kilowatt

.150kw * 24 hours *30 days = 16.2kw hours per month

I pay 8 cents per kw hour, so .08 * 16.2 = 1.296 dollars per month for one monitor on.

but, 2 computer @ 300 watts each plus 2 monitors at 150 watts each = 7.776 dollar per month for running 2 pcs with 2 moitors. This does not include powered speakers(250 W, i believe), printer, print server, modem, router, hubs, switches, etc, its starts getting expensive.

In standby, the monitor only uses about 5-10 watts. I turn it off anyway. I turn off the monitor more often than I shut down the PC. I leave the PC on for days at a time, but I usually turn the monitor off when I leave or go to bed.
