hmmm ... he should be left alone in a cell with the guy that killed dahmer.

Put him in the GENERAL POPULATION in the worst possible prison

to bad they WONT put him in General population. they will keep him away from all other prisoners to keep him safe. personally i think they they should put him in General population and every day tie him over a barrel naked with a sign saying "free sex".

personally I cant belive the guy tried to pin this on his son. well at least the child porn pics.

The real question is not whether he should get the death penalty. By his actions he has forfeited the right to exist in any society on earth. I also do not want to pay 80,000 dollars/year to house him for the rest of his life. The real question is what is to be done about the parents. I have no opinion on their lifestyle, but they need to be punished for exposing their children to these types of people. Of course the mother will have to live the rest of her life knowing that she was partying and smoking pot (and who knows what else) in some sleazy bar while her child was being raped and murdered. A real pretty picture don't you think? I hope she had a good time that night. The karma police definitely caught up with her.

I think we should institute a new program for all sex offenders since it doesn't seem possible to rehabilitate them. Maybe an island where they could live out their lives away from society. Someplace quite hot and humid and bug-ridden would be a nice touch. We could then air-drop supplies into them every month or so. Just the basics like that prison in (Texas?). Beans, fresh water and such. And to make the humanitarians happy we could give them good wholesome magazines to read. Like Oprah's magazine, National Enquirer, Good Housekeeping, and TV Guide. With all ads and references to children removed of course.

Death penalty for Westerfield and life in prison for both of the parents.

Death penalty for Westerfield and life in prison for both of the parents.

I agree that the parents have some fault here and should be also punished for their actions and neglience. Both the drug use and sleeping around are qualities that you definatly don't want in parents.

I went to Austrella with Westerfields son, but never met the dad (it was a school trip) so I can't say anything about him personally.

i think he deserves death, but throughout this whole ordeal, i have a little suspicion that either one or both of the van dam's played a role in this. i live in san diego and watched them do news conferences and the whole 'please help find my child' bit, but they seemed a little too nonchalant. ive also heard stories of local residents seeing the van dams in public weeks after the girl went missing throughout the trial, and ive heard stories of them being in an uplifted mood and even joking around at times. fine, move on with life, but my aunt works at the post office and said brenda walked up to the front, past the line, like she was the mayor, and demanded service. but thats not really relevant to their daughter missing, but it does go a long way in justifing one's actions, and seeing what kind of people they really are. and being as negligent as they were on top of that, you cant help but feel like they played some role in the whole situation. of course, i have my theories. another time, another place, also, im off work now... ;)

I oppose the death penalty. I do, however believe in giving pain to someone who does such an act. :|

Yeah, I'm as appauled as anyone about what he did, but I don't think it's our place to kill in return.

I dont know who westerfield is but by sentencing him to death u are putting yourself on the same level as him (I assume he is a murderer). Besides it's is against Christianity although I am a not religous at all. A human does not have the right to decide about another humans life that's Gods task - and that coming from an atheist
And why give a murderer the easy way out? No regrets, no real punishment that is stupid but since in the US it's all about money it's probably that - cheaper to get rid of the offender than to feed and house him for the rest of his pity life....

Anyway my opinion is just against the death penalty as I think it is archaic and barbaric. But there is no use arguing as the majority of Americans is all raving about weapons, death (penalties) and war...

US Constitution - Bill of Rights
Amendment VIII

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

Throw him in a cell.
