My laptop at work stays on 24/7 in case I need to remote into it. When it travels with me, I put it to sleep. My desktop is always on since it runs apps all day.

Windows 7 sleep... Usually because I don't want to wait the 30+ seconds I have to wait for a boot up for those random thingies I like to do... :)

XP. Sleep fucks up my wireless internet, so I shut down or leave on.

My desktop is always on, but goes into some super low power mode.

My laptop goes into hibernate.

My XP desktop hasn't been powered off since my video card died and I put in the replacement, reboots only.

The Vista laptop gets a full shut down, no sleep/hibernate.

I've heard that Vista doesn't need to be rebooted very often and that just Hibernating all the time is fine. I know XP needs to be rebooted now and then or it starts acting up. Haven't used Widow 7 yet...

Updated with Leave it Running options...

No. That just applies to those who can't maintain an operating system.

XP on both my laptop and desktop, leave it running, 24/7.

I have my Vista desktop set to hibernate when idle for more than a couple hours.

I run Vista, but I never use sleep/hibernate mode. I either leave it running (with BOINC running) or shut it down completely.

Yes - except never use hybernate - disable and delete hyberfil.sys on install.

Always have sleep enabled although the timeout varies depending on machine and current usage. Will sometimes shutdown xp since it needs to be rebooted periodically.

Anybody use S1 sleep?

Some bios's have a 'S1 & S3' option - wtf?

Windows XP x64 on Dell Precision 490 and setup power button to sleep the computer. For some reason Dell's can't use the hibernate feature, but their version of sleep is to hibernate so iono. I'm running U320 SCSI so no way in hell I'm shutting it down everyday.

My laptops (work and home) I just close the lid and it goes into whatever mode it goes into. My home PC I will either leave on or shut down, depending.

On all the time, the computer's usually doing something (seeding mostly) while I'm not on it.
