Why do you have to bless someone after they sneeze?

People used to think that the soul was trying to escape when you sneezed. Saying "bless you" forced it back in.

Personally I say "Robitussin" but then realize that's for coughing.

Because back in the medieval days, the common cold was not easily curable and often made you very ill. Sneezing was a sign you had it so people would hope God would bless you and "cure" you.

I voted YES but I'll explain. If someone sneezes and it's someoen I know or someone I'm with, then I say Bless You. But if just in public and some random person sneezes, then I don't as I assume someoen they are with would say it.

I don't say it when I sneeze though as Blessing myself seems kind of wrong. Heh.
