I like to do that before I go to sleep. It helps me relax.

Of course. Especially when I get a new album, I'll sit and listen to it all the way through.

Rarely. I always play music, but it's background stuff. If I do just play music to listen to it, I don't think I can keep my mind completely focused on it for the complete length of the album.

To be honest, I really do try. But being a performer, I'm practing, rehearsing, etc pretty constantly. When I get home, it's very hard for me to take the time to listen critically to more music. I can do it with a new recording I'm excited about, but otherwise it usually becomes 'hearing' rather than 'listening.'

Well the vast majority of the time I'm listening while doing something else at the computer, but when I get a new album im excited about or just want to connect more with a song/album/artist that I'm really digging I will sit back, close my eyes, and just focus on what I'm hearing.

depends. i like Infected Mushroom a lot and while their songs rock, they don't require full attention. i like to listen to them while i surf ATOT or sometime if i'm bored and play a little solitaire. in fact, i'm listening to them right now.

Yes I like to every now and again. Just really sit and focus on the music itself. It definitely helps to clear the mind. I always listen to music when I am on the computer or in the car too.

For anyone that doesn't know but likes to do what the OP described, I suggest Tool's "Lateralus." I heard so much more on that album when I finally just put on some headphones and did nothing but listen to it, start to finish.

Every one in a while... So I don't want to vote yes always, but I don't want to vote Never Have either. Hmm. Such a conundrum.

Only if it's something I'm super interested in, otherwise it's just background/workout music.

Hell yes.
I've got a room with sweet acoustics, pretty good speakers and and freaking awesome amp(NAD 3020).
I listen to music as much as possible.

Critical listening, yes I do it, a lot. Beatles are a fun one for that, especially if you have better source material than the current mainstream EMI CD releases and can hear details that are obscurred on those releases.

Modern mastering makes it impossible to do with a lot of recent stuff, I really hate that.

I must have ADD, because I can't sit down and do just one thing at a time. I have to listen to music and the tv (at the same time!) and read a book. I'm fscked up, my life is going to be a mess.

Rarely. Not cause I can't or won't, but because most music nowadays isn't interesting enough. It's practically made to be background noise. There are a few exceptions. Headphones + intricate music + dark room/eyes closed can bring me places with the right kind of stuff.

I do it every once in a while, but not often.

I would rather play an instrument instead -- does that count?
