Poll: Do you read books?

I'm talking about real books. Novels, etc...

I haven't read one in years, but from a few posts, I think I'd like to read The Da Vinci Code. Think it would be at a public library? Or should I just order it from Amazon? (what's a good place to buy books in Canada?)

yepper, not often, but I do it. Just finished reading all 3 Halo books in a week 2 weeks ago, now reading a book about Investing.

I read a book a week at least, but sometimes more. I concentrate primarily around software engineering, any of the sciences (primarily physics and astronomy), and sometimes history. I read very little fiction. I absolutely love to read.

I try and read as many as I can. Up to 13 so far this year, which isn't bad.

Public library would likely have it, as it is an extremely well selling book. The question is, how long is the waiting list? The larger your city, the longer you might have to wait, it all depends. Could always ask, of course.

As for buying in Canada, best place is like Amazon.ca. At least there you can hope for a few bucks off from an online discount on certain items. Otherwise they rape you on the new stuff. $10-12 for a paperback, $35-40 for a hardcover is outrageous! If you have good used book stores around town (I'm lucky and we have a ton in a small city) those are your best bet. Highest price you pay there is potentially selection.

ummm... what's your definition of 'literature', then?
I'd guess stuff not written this century, stuff that's typically considered "high-brow" as opposed to pop culture, etc. Dickens, Hemmingway, Dostoevsky, writers like that. Stuff that can be found under the Penguin Classics label for example.

I read books, mostly fiction. Lately I've been reading Discworld books, will probably switch over to Rudy Rucker after the next one.

Read "Cryptonomicon," "Quicksilver," and "The Confusion" by Neal Stephenson, in that order. "System of the World" comes out later this year.

Amazing books.

Da Vinci Code was good, but cannot compare.

those books are awesome....

well, i havnt read one in a while. but i think the middle books of the series were the strongest. the first few were a bit weak and now he is just.....well...getting a little too bogged down with maintaining the series. but he is a fantastic author.

Yes, I have to have a book going at all times so I can read while eating or just before going to sleep for a while to get my mind off of work.

stuff worth reading? 🙂 that was a low self-esteem disclaimer I guess. rarely do I read stuff that would be on anyone's "must read" list..

couple times a year I go through bookcloseouts.com's clearance/sale stuff and buy 25-30 of whatever sounds interesting and is cheap.. when I run out and they have another coupon and new clearance I do it again. rarely anything anyone's ever heard of. suppliment that with whatever's on the kids summer reading lists and whatever looks good when I'm at sams.

I'm reading tears of the giraffe right now.. not right this minute right now but.. currently in a when I'm sitting anywhere else sort of way..

Yeah, I really like them. Small Gods and Feet of Clay are my favorites. Need to pick up Monstrous Regiment. Just finished Reaper Man (I read them out of order). Some of his recent books didn't thrill me... Wee Free Men and The Fifth Elephant weren't very good IMO, but Thief of Time was fun.

I work nightshift in a computer lab with more or less nothing to do all night so I waste a lot of time reading. I read around one book a week and most would be considered trash. Currently working on The Wolves of Time by William Horwood.
