Poll: Do you put up your windshield wipers when it snows?

When it snows, I always see the occasional car with its windshield wipers pointing out to the sky. Do you do this and if so why? Not sure if I understand the point of it...

They probably do it so the snow doesn't pile up on top of the wipers when they're in their resting position. Cuz when it does, it can become ice due to the defrost / car heat, and then your wipers either get stuck or laden with ice chunks which is a pain in the ass.

I don't do it personally.

What benefit does it possibly offer? Just so they don't freeze to the windshield? Even if they do, you just nudge them a bit while scraping off the windshield. I never do that and I'm in WI. It snows here all the damn time.

Sometimes the blade will get iced to the windshield. Then you can't use it, and if you attempt to while its still iced, you can break the motor.

...which I did this morning after 4-5 inches of snow came down and froze overnight.

Dude, its still snowing :| I hate this weather :|

I do. On a 02 Malibu you cant lift the blades in their resting position, they hit the very top of the hood. Without having the blades out of the way its hard to get the snow/ice that forms at the very bottom of the windshield which IMO is the casue of the blade freezing cockeyed leaving sections of your windshield unwiped while driving. Also, its just much easier to knock the ice off of them by smacking them against the windshield.

Beats me. Either way, just scraping the ice off around the blades before heading out is good policy.

I didn't know they delayed class 2 hours this morning, and I showed up for my 8 AM to find an empty classroom.

Nothing like finding out I dragged my ass out of bed on 3 hours of sleep for nothing. :|

I try to,

If I forget then I have to put up with a wiper blade that leaves giant streaks on the glass (streaks which coincidentally only block my view but the passenger side is fine)

I'm a sophomore, and this particular class is only offered at 8 AM (there are about 300 people in it, not worth scheduling multiple time slots for them I guess).
