I bought a fake one for about $70 or something about 5 years ago and it still looks pretty good. Don't have to chop down any trees and it's WAY cheaper and less messy.

We do a real tree every year, when my kids were small they'd come with me to pick it outr.On the way home we'd sing cheezy Xmas carols.Poor things,we'd be out in snowstorms on the hunt for the "perfect" tree. Some years I had delusions of grandeur regarding the size of my living space.More than one of our tree's took up half the living room and needed to have branches cut off to get it out of the house when Xmas was over, I've had tree's so crooked they needed to be tied to the wall, charlie Brown tree's but every year, the kids would help pick it and every year they each got a new ornament to hang on it.

Last year my daughter and her b/friend got my tree because I'd been in an accident, that was probably the most beautiful tree I'll ever have,it was also probably the last Xmas for quite awhile that all three of my babies will be together under my roof for Xmas.. 2 of em are all grown up and gone now, flung to the far corners of the world, where did the years go ?

If any of you ATOT'ers have little ones, remember these times, hold the memories close to you, the years fly by quicker than you'd ever imagine. If you're lucky though, you'll get a phone call, asking you for that special box of ornaments
or for that fancy cookie dough receipe or driving instrictions to that great tree lot out in Timbucktoo.. and you'll know that you've given your child one of life's nice gifts, the security and warmth of traditions lovingly built and handed down.

Merry Xmas ATOT.

Just bought it last night. When I trimed the bottom up I gashed the trunk so I cut it there and then trimed back the branches. when I did that I found a footlang part of the trunk that had NO BRANCHES. Now instread of a nice full tree we have a bush!

thats a great story, especially around this time. really puts you in the christmas spirit.

seems like your kids would still come in for a few days, and decorate the tree.

My mom and I used to get a real tree every year. (I was partial to Noble Firs.) Also, I would always get sick around Christmas time. We thought maybe it was the tree so we bought an artificial one and I didn't really get sick anymore. Now, we're with my grandmother and she has to get a real one.....oh well...I'm usually holed up in here in the bedroom on the computer anyway. No need to spend time with the tree. heehee

Lol, the OP started a great thread here, I'm sitting here having my coffee and rembering back over the years,it's kinda like getting a bonus Xmas gift. Hehehe, I remember one year I had gotten a totally impossibly HUGE tree, I mean this sucker took like 7-8 strands of lights and hundreds of ornanaments, I had to take furniture out of my living room to get it in there,it was totally out of scale size wise. At any rate my kids were watching tv and I forget which President was in office but they were showing the Xmas tree in the White house and my eldest daughter chimes in with "look mommie, they have a tree like ours"

I thought my now ex hubby was gonna choke to death he was laughing so hard :D

My eldest girl has a new husband this year, her own kids and a new stepchild..she's also due with another baby in the 1st week in Jan so she'll be celebrating with her own family, my middle girl will be off in another state, meeting her b/friend's parents for the 1st time. It'll be just me and Matt this year .

Until about 3-5 years ago we bought potted Spruce ones, and after Christmas we would go out and plant the trees. So now that we have about 10-12 trees planted and they have grown quite large, my dad used to threated to cut them down, but we would beg him not to just because they look so nice. So we have a fake tree now. and every year except this one i was home to set up and decorate the tree... sigh...

i just can't bring myself to torture and kill a cute, huggable tree so i put up a fake one every year the week after thanksgiving.

killing is wrong; hug a tree today!

We prefer to call them artifical trees :) and yes that is what we use.

We don't in the spirit of christmas to go and kill a tree :)
