POLL: Do you 'polish' apples before eating them?

Many times on TV shows, I see someone grab an apple from a fruit dish or their lunch bag, and they'll proceed to 'polish' it on their shirt before eating it.

Why this is done is beyond me, and I see no need to do so. Rinsing the apple is a much more sanitary way of cleaning it. I've never done it, nor have I ever seen any members of my family or circle of friends do it.

Do you do this? If so, why on earth do you do it?

I do if there's not a sink around to rinse it in. If there's any benefit beyond wiping dirt off, I'm not sure, but why not?

If there's no sink around that I can rinse it in then atleast I can try to get something of the filmy layer of pesticides off onto my shirt, as opposed to my mouth.

I usually don't rinse them off either, as I just don't see the point. I figure, after 26 years, my body has built up enough resistance to whatever might be on the skin of an apple I got at the supermarket.

They spray this wax stuff on the apples to make them shine better at the store.

Try to rinse, then a couple of shakes to get a lot of the water off. If not, rub it on the shirt.

Yea, it probably won't hurt me, but I like the fact taht I'm perhaps rubbing off bug crap that I would otherwise be ingesting.

I'm pretty sure they wax the apples BEFORE they get into the store, so that they last longer.

If you get shot every week in a non-vital part of your body for 26 years does that give your body enough resistance to "don't have to dodge a bullet"?
