Poll: Do you own/use a radar detector?

Which do you think is correct, 1 in 500 drivers, 1 in 50, or something inbetween?

Yep, it was one of the first "modifications" I made to my car.

I bet it's even higher than 1 in 50. Maybe 1 in 20.

Of course the poll will probably show something like 1 in 3, because the thread title attracts people with radar dectors.

I have one in my car but I never use it. My eyes and instinct are a better detector anyway.

 

My dad has one, but he only uses it when on long trips. No one in my family uses the highway in their daily commute.

I am sure it's much lower than 1:500.

That would mean that only like 600,000 radar detectors have been sold/are in use, or something like that. Not really sure how many cars are on the road, but I guessed around 300 million.

I use one.. and its sorta hidden..

My focus has a little cubby hole on the dash for coins, i put it in there.. works great.. i mean the distance gets a bit limited.. but i am yet to get a ticket..

I almost always speed (reasonablely), and no ticket yet.

I don't have one or know anyone who has one. I've only gotten one speeding ticket in my life though (128kph in 100kph zone). The way I drive, I could have gotten countless naaaaaaaaasty tickets... but I guess I don't drive like a maniac at the wrong times in the wrong places, or something. Guess you could call it a sort of "sense"... I usually spot them a few blocks away.

one of my uncles works for boeing and one of his coworkers built a device that when placed in the trunk of the car and turned on frys any radar equipment that the cop car is using when it gets in range to take your speed.

That would depend on where you live. They are legal in some states, not in others.

I have a cheapo radar detector that doubles as a digital compass. I drive fast and I've never gotten a ticket with it (or in the last 5 years).

Actually, I work in a microwave lab for a subcontractor to Boeing and we have some pretty crazy stuff here. Some of the equipment I work with has frequency bands the same as radar guns, and some of my supervisors work with huge ass antennas so his claim wouldn't really surprise me.
