I guess so. I put 6% into a 401k and work matches 50%.

same here, it's nice having an effective 9% investment when you only put in 6% !!!

even better when you put in 5% and company matches 100%.

Damn you rich trust fund kids, stop rubbing it in 😉

I'm gonna go into coop after the next academic year... hoping I can start some serious saving/investing then.

yes.... ex-0.00000001% owner of Sony, GM, BofA, JC Penny and SGP ... they made money for a while but I was unsatifised with the return, so I decided to risk it all and bought a small cap stock. I lost all the gain I made and nearly 30 percent of my starting capital 🙁

note to self: Doing Nothing is still better than Doing something stupid

n00b, how do I invest in a mutual fund?

You can buy shares in a mutual fund by your local broker but I recommend you buy them directly from the fund. You can call or go to their websites and request some brochues so you can invest with them. Read it, fill in the paperwork, and send it back and you are ready to go.

Some of the good funds are from Vanguard and Fidelity. I don't work for them, just have good experience with them.
