I am just curious. I live in a relatively low crime neighboorhood in Canada and over here we don't own hand guns. Only rifle for hunting and we have very strict laws....

Are you that scared for you live?

University housing doesn't allow it, and neither do my parents. Once I get my own place however, this may change.

also, kinda OT, since I can't have a gun, anyone around Lawrence want to take me shooting?

I also live in a low crime zone but choose to own a gun, sofar here in Canada you only have to jump thru burning hoops, with your hands tied.
Too bad criminals aren't subject to this Strict Law:disgust:

Well if you want a hand gun in canada it is pretty hard to get... of course if you want one badly you can get one.. that is with anything in this world. In the states it is rather easier, your presidents are usually part of the NRA. I am not against people with guns... just a curiousity question.

To shoot bullets. Its kinda hard to shoot them without a gun. I tried holding them in my hand and smacking the back of the bullet with a hammer, but it stings like hell when it goes off.

(Shakes head in disbelief) Canadians... I swear... :D

Yes, because I enjoy hunting and target shooting. But, I also feel safer in my own home knowing that I am capable of defending myself against and intruder.

Nope, not the least bit scared. SigSauer P226 with 15 rounds of Cor-bon and one in the chamber 2 extra magazines.

My wife carries a Sig P230... and has a .357 magnum.

Not scared a bit - nope. We're just fine :)

Oh - and I forgot to add...

"Because we can own them"

and - the only way to control a government is if they know that the citizens can overthrow them in an armed revolt.

I live in a very low crime neighborhod but I still own guns, quite a few in fact. I collect military weapons of all types but I mostly own the "assault" rifles everyone seems to be so afraid of. Actually most of them are NOT assault weapons but since they have a removble magazine that holds more than 5 shots the liberals label them "Assault" weapons. They are all locked up and I only shoot them occasionally now. I enjoy them and they are a lot of fun to shoot. My guns range in age from over 100 yrs to almost new. I have my guns because I get a great deal of pleasure from the hobby. I have never pointed a gun at anyone and I hope I never have to.

I am not in fear of my life, but you better be if you break into my house or try to harm my family!

I don't own a gun b/c I don't really enjoy shooting guns that much. A gun probably wouldn't relieve security concerns, but rather add new ones for me.

I own 2 guns a pistol .45 and a rifle 30-06. The reason for the pistol was to get into IPSC (simulated combat shooting) events as a hobby. The reason for the rifle is for hunting which is a poor excuse because the only thing I've hunted with that thing was a dove. No there was nothing left, and yes I know it was a bit overkill. I've had my sights set on a coyote but could not manage to pull the trigger. I've had my sights set on a mule deer but could not manage to pull the trigger. When I have time I think I'll try for a non-native and very destructive spicies, wild domestic pigs. They are an introduced spicies to the california coastal ranges, are very distructive and the land is better off without them. Maybe with that I can justify taking a life.

Fact: i do own a gun.

Why: i don't need a reason why. I am legally entitled to do so, so giving reasons isn't necessary, any more than i need to give my reasons for choosing a silver Saturn sedan, rather than a blue Chrysler convertible.

If you were truly interested in my reasons for owning a gun, i rather enjoy shooting my Sig Sauer as a hobby, and measure of skill - in short, a recreational pursuit. The fact that it could be used as a self-defense tool is a secondary, but real, consideration. Self-defense was not my primary consideration, any more than it was in the selection of my kitchen knives, which i could also use for self-defense if it came right down to it.

Whether or not you like the idea of citizens' rights to own weapons, it IS a Constitutionally guaranteed right in America.
