A graph is worth a thousand posts...

by "staying away indefinitely" speaking only of Bulldozer. E.g., if you are considering Pileshoveler, that doesn't count.

No, zero interest.

My i7-2600k serves me well, and i have a 2700k sitting in a box i could OC if i decide my 2600k's 4.3 GHz isn't enough.

Really hard to say, since it'll probably be at least a year before I do a cpu upgrade. So I suppose it depends on how Piledriver will do, but I won't write it off in advance either.

So I voted "within 1 year" but that's with a big "maybe" attached.

Yes. Athlon II X4 620 (@3.6GHz) to FX 8150 (@4.4GHz)

I regret it but will go PD as soon as possible.

Was going to wait for the next stepping or maybe Piledriver, but had the upgrade bug recently and got an 8120 for kicks. Still tweaking and seeing how far I can push it, but currently running 4.1GHz at stock voltage (1.3125V). More voltage doesn't seem to help much, though, looks like it might end up topping out at only 4.4-4.5 (was hoping for more, at least 4.6).

It's pretty much what I was expecting. Solid upgrade over an X4 955 in heavily threaded tasks, underwhelming lightly threaded performance, but what it offers is good enough for my needs and that Win 7 patch that's supposed to be out soon will help with that. And it's a hot and power hungry chip when you start overvolting, although it's not bad at all on stock volts (but this is on a D14, which is about the best air cooling you can get I suppose).

Wait, what's the difference between "No" and "I'm staying away indefinitely!!!"?

I voted staying away indefinitely. This may change if they lower prices on FX or get a new stepping out which improves power efficiency and overclocking head room. As it currently is, very hard to choose over an I5, and when I do my next build Ivy Bridge will be around for FX to compete against.

I hope to within the next year if Piledriver goes well and after that mysterious microsoft patch comes. If it ever does.

No i dont own one but im not 100% against it.

No i dont own one and im 100% against it so ill never own one.

Thats how i interpreted it.

yeah.

I should have included a "no but at some point I plan to get one" in addition to the 3 months/6 months/1 year/2 years thing so that it would be easier to eyeball it.

do we know for sure how much deeper the pipeline is on Bulldozer compared to Phenom2?
That may help tell us how high it *should* be able to clock...

Does it really though?

You'd first have to normalize the process nodes - comparing 45nm PhII to 32nm BD is a non-starter in this regard - so that would leave you comparing 32m Llano to 32nm BD.

But...that would also require Llano itself to have been designed for the same high-performance high-power end of the spectrum such that we could ascribe its clockspeed envelope to that of the underlying microarchitecture and not to that of the layout/density tradeoffs that can be made at the time of design for purposes of lowering power-usage and so on.

In short, I don't think we have enough to go on here to really substantiate any sort of conclusive information on bulldozer's potential clockspeed envelope. It has already been shown to go to 8.3GHz (or higher?).

Voted no, and I'm staying away indefinitely. I wanted to get one this year when my ip35pro rig died, but 2500k was a lot better AND a lot better value as well. If BD had been close I would have bought it, but as mentioned it's performance is more like a ph II than a SB.

Maybe I am the one misusing the term "indefinitely" but I took it to mean "uncertain, with possibility of reversing".

adj. Not definite, especially: a. Unclear; vague.
b. Lacking precise limits: an indefinite leave of absence.
c. Uncertain; undecided: indefinite about their plans.

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/indefinitely

"No" has a ring of finality to it, as in "never".

Whereas "I'm staying away indefinitely!!!" means "not now, and not until I change my mind, but I am leaving open the possibility that at some point in the future I may change my mind and I will buy one".

That is why I asked above what the intended difference was for those two options.

I do not own one, but I hold open the possibility that I will own one someday but I can't be clear enough to nail down a specific time period as listed in the polling options.

I would say:

"No, but I will see if reversions improve BD down the line."
or
Not on your life.

[Poll!] Do you own a bulldozer? [no discussion going on here just poll!]

FWIW, threads can be merged and the poll of thread A can become a poll of Thread B while Thread B's OP is retained in the merge.

If you really want no conversation here, because of the other thread, then just ask for them to be merged and it can be done in a jiffy.

Plan on waiting a couple respins of it, but if I were to go with the current BD I would see an improvement with the higher models. I'm currently interested in Trinity as a second PC, thinking an ITX setup might make a great portable PC.

Is it me, or are the percentages borked. 46+48+9+9+5+2+7 is 126% alone (rounding)
