Do you litter? If so, why? I ask because this afternoon I filled a 13 gallon trash bag with trash that people threw on my lawn this winter. When I was in college I did the adopt a highway thing one time. In the 1/8th mile stretch of a two lane road that my group was responsible for, we filled 4 55 gallon drum liners with trash. I was really surprised that we found that much, you never notice it when you're driving by.

I'm really interested in knowing WHY people choose to throw their trash out on the road rather than waiting until they get home and putting it in the trash can. I have a feeling there won't be many people willing to explain themselves here, and yet I know there must be many people here who litter. So I ask you, why do it if you're not willing to own up to it?

I have a feeling most people are motivated by laziness, and anonymity plays a big role in their willingness to do it.

Next time you're driving past my house, keep the White Castle bags in your car please.

Thank you.

Nope. I'll carry my own trash in my pocket as far as I need to in order to dispose of it properly.

I find the people who spit or litter cigarette butts/gum on sidewalks disgusting.

Nope. Makes me angry when someone at school throws trash on the ground when there is a garbage can 40 feet away. Will it hurt you that much to walk over there?

i've seen people who miss the can when they throw away their trash and then walk away because its too much effort to pick it up

Yes, because the large garbage bin's too expensive and my junk don't fit in the small garbage bin.

Because it's easier, duh

Seriously though, yes it really botheres me when people do that, just stick it in your pocket. Although this usually leads to a tonne of trash being in my pocket because I always forget to throw it out.

Nope.
When I was a kid, that was one of the few things the old man taught us. I pick up other people's garbage all the time.

It's a yes and no for me.

After being in India and seeing what their garbage situation is, I am VERY conscious of what I do with my garbage. You people have no idea how fortunate we are to live in such a clean and beautiful area. It absolutely sickens me when I see people littering because they abviously have no respect for anyone or anything but themselves.

The only time I answer "yes" to this question is at something like a sporting event or a movie theatre. Most of the time I throw my stuff in the garbage cans, but every once and a while, I just throw it in the aisle. The only reason I even do that is because I know someone is going to clean it up. I still like to throw it out myself because I like to make things easier for the people who have to do that job, but sometimes I just forget or feel lazy.

I feel this not to be considered as littering. I always felt littering was an outdoor "activity". Anyways, I don't litter because I'm afraid of people yelling at me.

I'll make a huge mess of peanut shells at a Yankee game, but that's about it. Heck, I'll carry a bottle around all day until I get a chance to recycle it.

Littering sucks. Litterers <--- grow-up, punks!
