It seems to me like a LOT of the people on AT don't know the proper usage of words like "its" and "it's," so I decided to make a poll just to see how bad people really are in the usage of these words.

PLEASE DO NOT REPLY WITH YOUR ANSWER. Do feel free to comment or bump, though. Thanks.

(if you couldn't tell, this was inspired by the they're/their/there thread) :)

As posted in the other one I truly struggle with these.

it's - has to be posessive right? It's tail was wagging
it is - contraction, have to place appostrophe resulting in it's.

Now, how about if "it" is plural? can you use its'? Or is there no plural, nominative it?

Yes I know the difference between its and it's, and between their, there, and they're.

We're just too lazy to add little punctuations to satisfy whining ppl who twitch their legs when they see dont instead of don't or when instead of went or their instead of they're.

it's - contraction of "it is" or "it has".
its - possessive, belonging to it.
they, them, their - plural of it.

Edit: I'd rather have people know how to use their own language than have accurate poll results.

If you don't know the difference between "know" and "no", you have no right to have passed the 6th grade.

Yup I agree. I'm a newspaper editor, so yes I would know.
Thankfully. However it shouldn't take a newspaper editor to tell the difference between its and it's. Maybe we have far more YOUNG members than we thought? Either that or the average Joe over here (average "anandtecher") is far less educated (or far more indolent) than the general consensus going around.
