Poll: Do you know any non-teenager that makes minimum wage?

Raising minimum wage is being brought up again and I was just wondering if anybody knew someone that was making minimum wage and wasn't a teenager. Just wondering because I've never met any.

I think the only time I've ever made minimum wage was working at a Putt-Putt in high school and my first season of officiating intra-mural sports during college. Even my teenage brother-in-law makes more than minimum wage working at a Target.

No, I don't know anyone who has made min wage past high school.

And I agree, most of the arguements regarding the minimum wage debate are just partisan spin.

With all of the immigration from Mexico and Cuba, there are many workers that aren't getting a fair wage for the labor they do. However, many of them are paid under the table anyhow so min wage doesn't count for them. I personally don't think they should raise it again for a while because it will only cause further inflation.

The gubment needs to worry about their debt and start consolidating their stupid war budget by cutting costs now. They've already screwed over my future kids and their kids with this stupid war debt....there's no need to start inflation by forcing corporations to pay their low-end workers more.

thanks for making me google Carmike 10 to see what the hell that was.

oh and any moron manager who agrees to work for 5.50 an hour deserves it for being a moron.

I started work during high school @ 7.41 an hour which was a buck above minimum...
my friends all started around the same and have gone up since obviously.

so no i can't think of anyone making minimum... some close, but not minimum.

My wife works in the Human Services field.

Although she makes more than "minimum wage" its nothing great.

Better than no job I guess.......

I started working at 7.50 when I was outta HS and straight into college... That's almost $2 over minimum here and it wasn't anything that deserved over $6.50/hr...

I worked for minimum wage for exactly six months and then got a job paying double. I have only worked minimum wage one other time and that was for about a month 2 years ago.

Any kind of "Human Services" or social work field gets paid diddly. One of my former co-workers (programmer) was making plans to become a social worker when he got laid off. That was until how little he saw they were paid. He couldn't believe it and started finding programming jobs again despite the fact that he was burned-out.

A lot of very important jobs pay very poorly. It's obvious that the workers do it for the love of the work and not for the pay.

Social workers do a good service but make next to nothing.

NASA engineers are paid very poorly, too. All that schooling for a wage that most people can make. If they'd quit NASA and go work for an insurance firm as an actuary, they'd make 2x-3x more.

God no, how pathetic. I wouldn't associate with somebody like that, and not because I am too good to hang out with a poor person, but if you're a non-teenager making minimum wage you're a bleeding moron, and that's why I wouldn't associate with you.

Yeah I can see if you were between better jobs it could be worthwhile to get a job at burger king to get health insurance. Realize though that most fast food joints pay more than minimum wage!
