POLL: Do You Highlight As You Read Textbooks?

If you had to put yourself in one camp...When you read a college textbook, do you highlight as you read (or underline, take notes in the margin, etc.) or do you simply just read?

Edit: Fixed title.

Hell no. I just read. Highlighting takes too much effort and reduces the resale value of the book (if I plan on selling it afterwards).

Yes. 🙂

i read, but then i end up rereading it because i read it without paying attension. it would be better if i did highlight, but im too lazy.

Oh sh!t. I thought you meant do I highlight the text on the computer screen with my mouse when I read. I do so I voted yes. I don't highlight when I read books though.

I thought you meant on the internet. Not in real life, I don't want to ruin the book, but on the internet, I "read with my mouse."

Only when some dumbass web designer thinks navy text looks good on starfield wallpaper.

Reading comprehension ftw!

..or sarcasm..? 😛

Generally when someone mentions highlight and read in the same setence whilst on a computer forum, one assumes he's speaking about e-reading.

I simply read. The act of highlighting breaks up the continuity of what you read and ends up making your reading less effective and take longer in my opinion......doesn't help that you ruin the book too. I always make it a point to understand what I read and with an eidetic memory highlighting is of little value to me.

for novels I just read, for text books I highlite then when I finish a chapter I take notes based on my highliting.

I just read for textbooks. On the internet, I highlight random things over and over again cause I cant' keep the mouse still.

Heh, I didn't even think of the online connotation, my bad.

I'm a senior that's basically taking a double credit load in my last semester to finish everything and I have obscene amounts of reading compared to the rest of my college career (which is why I'm asking this on a Saturday night). I can't stand highlighting when I read, but I always feel like I should, so I thought I'd find out how everyone else does it.
