No I don't have any such problems but that hardly makes me a super gamer. In fact, getting head spins puts you in the minority group.

I must admit that I've heard of people feeling sick but I've never heard of anyone getting head spins/dizziness.

A wide range of things could factor into the cause like low framerates, low refresh rates, temperature, humidity, lightning and your distance from the monitor. Try experimenting with these things to see if the problem goes away.

In recent games I haven't felt nausea, but I remember old school games like Wolfenstien 3d and the original Quake and Doom I would constantly get headaches and felt sick. I guess it was the technology of the time, but in recent games (post Duke Nukem and Q2) I would say I've hardly ever felt nauseated. I mean, I've been known to play CS for 8-9 hours straight at LAN parties or LAN shops without any problems.

I sometimes feel motion sickness with portions of some games. I just recently finished NOLF. The motorcycle made me sick until I reduced the mouse sensitivity for vehicles.

I havent personally, but their are definitely a minority of people that experience symptoms of nausea, dizziness, motion sickness etc. when playing games with a lot of action with quickly alternating camera angles.

It's not actually all that rare, I've heard estimates that about 10-13% of the population experience such symtoms when playing certain types of games.

The original Quake and Quake 2 did it to me after only about 10 minutes, for some reason. I played Duke Nukem 3D for about 16 hours straight once, and didn't experience it at all. Even the fast firefights of UT (or the original Unreal, for that matter) and Quake 3 never made me feel the way Quake 1&2 did. I think that Quake 2 actually had a worse effect than the original. I never made it past like level 2 on Quake 2 because it made me so ill to play it.

Oh, and of course, it happens when playing anything if I had a few too many the night before ;)

You can imagine how much sickness I got after I finally finished Quake 2 three years ago. My head spined one whole day, even when I was asleep. Especially, the scenes in prison with all the prisoners crying really drived me nuts. :disgust:

This is due to a weak vestibular system....... your body and your eyes are in conflict on the motion your eyes are experiencing and your body is not; it results in a sensory conflict and feeling sick. People with weak vestibular systems can ovecome the problem by performing exercises that will eventually decrease the sensitivity of the vestibular to the conflict it is recieving. This means fighting through the nausea..... same way you eventually get over sea sickness. Of course, I did know one person that suffered a seizure while playing Doom about 6 years ago.

Another reason that you may have gotten sick and gotten headaches from games a few years ago was because the older style CRT monitors put out a lot more radiation than they do today. I personally never felt sick or gotten a headache after playing games for hours on end. If you have a newer CRT or any LCD monitor you shouldn't get sick from radiation. Also, the radiation from older monitors were known to cause headaches and your eyes would start to bother you after you sat in front of it for hours.

I have never personally got the head spins. But when Duke Nukem came out me and a friend Duke matched all night modem to modem. I didn't sleep a wink. The next day my eyes were red and I looked spun. With the look on my face my friends thought I had been up all night smoking crack.

A few years ago I played a friend Half-life on a LAN. He wasn't used to first-person shooters and he got dizzy and motion sick. He hasn't played since.

Yeah i never have gotten sick until MOHAA. Man one day I had to quit it was so bad. I didn't get headspin though just my gut was all frickin turned upside down. i've played jusy about every 3d shooter out there to.
The good ones anyway. I thought I was a minority as far as feelin sick. I've also raced sailboats for the last 23
yrs since I was 9 yrs old and I never have problems with motion sickness on the water.

Hmm.. strange, based on thhe poll result, almost 50% of the people voted felt sick playing 3D games. Wondered whether game producer take this factor into consideration when they are making games. :frown:

I usually get sick while playing FPS's. Usually, I keep playing until I'm about to barf, but now, I anticipate the feeling and quit before it gets really bad. From what my little brother tells me, when he watches me play, is that watching someone else play is worse that actually playing it. I agree.

I think refresh rate is a major factor in nausea. My newer systems and monitors dont make me sick anymore. I think watching is more likely to make you barf because you notice flicker more. Even at 85hz you can still see flicker if you turn your head 90 degrees and look from the corner of your eye.
