It depends on the size container if it's an overpriced Ben & Jerry's pint then yes.

If it's a quart or half gallon of ice cream then no, that's what ice cream scooper up thingies and bowl thingies are for.

Only if it's in a pint or smaller container. Eating out of a gallon tub is just cumbersome.
