Yes, and many do if you think about it.

If you sold each and every thing we have, added all saved money and the like, you would end up with over $1mil most likely.

Changed due to overwhelming request.

If you need to change your answer just post like:

Change to Yes or something.

Sorry for the mess up, I am a retard.

Nope, not by the lowest standards here. My family spent every cent on health care for my brother. Goes that way sometimes.

Well, by using the term "wealthy", that automatically denotes a sense of minority status by definition - for example - let's say a wealthy nation in the world exists - and no household is worth less than $10M - in their country, and in their own status, would a household worth $10M be wealthy? In that same vein, if every other nation in the world had the same kind of househld, would that particular nation be wealthy?

Heck no!

You are only wealthy if you're better off than the majority - hence the minority status is already there. ;)

Werd.

To this poor boy, if you or your parents make over $100K a year, you are wealthy.

To me, someone that owns a nice house, outright and has more than $250K in assets is wealthy.

There are some SERIOUSLY spoiled brats on this board. :disgust:

My parents, thanks to our grandparents, own everything we have, which includes our 1 million+ house (not at all uncommon in the bay area, it's considered an average house in Walnut Creek), and some real estate in Oakland/San Francisco. I don't consider my family wealthy. Our cars, although of the Lexus brand, are aging, and I share a car with my dad (my sisters both have their own cars, a 96 ES300 and a 01 Civic. I realize we are well off and I'm lucky and fortunate that i don't have to worry about college tuition or school supplies or anything like that, but at the same time my parents demand results before they give us anything. I remember my friends used to get 50-75$ for every A on their quarterly report card, I would get a 2 hour lecture if I didn't get an A in any class.

I think you can make a lot less than $500K a year and be considered wealthy. My parents made less than $70K a year so of course I was not from a wealthy family.

I guess its just where you live.

All of the houses in my parents neighborhood are worth $300K+, 1/4 mile in any direction and you can find houses worth $1+ million. 1/2 mile to mile past that you drop from $200K-85K. I've seen the poor parts of my town maybe 5 times in my life. Hell, I didn't even know there was another half to the city until HS. You have your NW side and your east side. The east side imo has a net worth of 20 bucks. On the other hand if you made my parent's house the epicenter of a circle with a 1 mile radius you could probably net close to $50+ million.

Net worth? I really don't know, but probably? I thought that (500K) was per year...I was like, damn, that's quite out of reach. My parents probably make...125?

My parents are kinda rich(average around here) but they never gave me anything. They make in the 210-230k/year range(combined). They put all their money into buying homes to rent them out. When I was a little kid, they would always make me work for my money. My friends knew my parents were rich and wondered why I wore shabby clothes to school. I didn't even have money to buy my clothes for myself. Finally when I turned 16, I got a job and made my own money. They did give me one of their houses though after I got out of college:beer::D

Yeah, but I certainly won't see any of it. (not like I deserve much, I was a bastard in my teenage years) If I see even a tenth of it as an inheritance I could probably retire immediately though.

My net worth is approximately -$15,000 (college loans). I neither know nor care what my parents' net worth is.

Where is Ylen13, anyway?

if i took all 4000 of my savings and back paychecks (buying a car this week, YAY). and sold all my possessions...Uhhhh....paintball guns.......100 dollar computer...... I'd probably have like 6 grand (of my own, that I worked for).

My parents on the other hand......

We wont own this house for another 28 years or so, and my parents are both over 50 so I sure hope they are retired by then....Then we'd be well over your original wealthy cut-off with just our house alone (on today's market). Prob worth 1.4 mill or so as it is.

While growing up my dad made around $20k-$30k a year though in Wv thats not that bad but still not great. Almost as soon as I moved out of coarse he started making $60k and year and rising and my 10 year younger sister is reaping the benifits. The bitch ;).

Whenever I would have friends over to my house when I was younger they'd always say "Man, you must be rich!"
But that always made me feel embarrassed, because I didn't feel my family was rich. We had a nice house and cars, but nothing I would consider extravagant. My dad has done very well the past few years owning his own business, and probably makes between $300k to $500k a year. I am out own my own now, so I see none of that. Furthermore, I do not feel entitled to any of it, unlike my younger brother, whom my parents throw money at to keep him from bitching. I would consider him to be one of the "snobs" discussed on these boards. Oh well--he'll find out what the real world is like soon enough. . .

Super-super long post

My mother and my step father make around 100k a year (both in the Air Force) - I live with them. They are paying $128k for their house (althought the value of it has gone up $178k). My father and stepmother make around 100k a year also (both are in the Air Force Reserves, both work as civilians in the military). Their house is worth 200k.

Honestly, I never really see a dime of any of that. Sure my family supported me when I was growing up (buying new clothes every year, food, etc), but I have never seen any of the things some of you guys have gotten. They did buy me my first car - a 400 dollar 1986 Corolla, but after a year of working for Papa John's, I sold it for 600 bucks and paid them back (after all, it was really "their" car. The only real thing I have goten from then was $2k from my mom/step-dad and $1k from my Dad/Step-mom for my graduation present (they said it was for college expenses - I have yet to touch it).

I've grown up in many places in my life, but always living on base. I've never been exposed to people who were weathier than I was, every was pretty much on the same level when I grew up - never really givin anything, elways having to wrk for what you get. Not until I was in the 10th grade was I exposed to the lives of civilians, and I have to say, most people don't understand how good they've got it.

Everything has been on my dime - my first car which cost me $3k (money I saved up from working at Papa John's), then my second car, and 1998 Nissan 200sx, which is finanaced under my mothers name (6.5k). I pay for my own insurance, maintenence for the car, double what my car payment is a month, food, clothes, furniture for my room, toilet paper, 1/4th of my college, books, etc, etc, etc. In essence, the only thing my parents have supplied me with for the past two years (just turned 19) is a place to live, and dinner every now and then. I have also saved up 5k from delivering pizzas for the past two years. I have a scholarship which pays for 75% of my tuition to any florida college, and I pay the rest of my fees.

On top of that, I do all of the landscaping at my parents house for free - and by landscaping I don't mean cutting the grass. I real reason I do it is because it's my hobby. I dug up our front yard, and laid new sod by myself. I have designed all or our flower beds, I'm the only person who takes care of the lawn also.

So, not only do I go to school full time, and work a full time job (which is mostly at night), I spend upwards of 15 hours a week just working on my yard, AND I'm still a lifer :p Do I consider my family wealthy, not really. But I do consider mymyself wealthy in self discipline.
