I find that a more than a few board members are slightly bitter toward anyone who comes from a wealthy family. This leads me to believe that wealthy house holds are in the minority here. I'm not saying everyone is like that and I'm probably in the minority on thinking this way but who knows.

I couldn't think of a good way to do this but lets see:

Immediate family's net worth $1+ million US = yes

Immediate family's net worth less than $1 million US = no

If someone has a better way of doing this by all means call me stupid and let me know.

Don't need any specifics unless you feel it necessary, just click yes or no.

Not looking to start a flame war but with this type of topic I'm sure something will happen. :(

My parents are both less than four years away from retirement, so my family may be unique.

My mom has about $500k socked away for retirement, plus a $300k house. My dad and my stepmom combined are worth at least $3 or 4 million, plus a $700k house.

I am not close to my dad at all, and do not consider myself wealthy. I will be putting myself through law school and the rest of my graduate schooling completely on my own.

Edit: my dad has paid for one quarter's worth of my undergraduate schooling, and my mom paid for a year's worth. I paid for the rest.

I know someone who's uncle could be considered a millionaire...not married, no kids.

so I guess his family is pretty wealthy..

No, and I'll make sure that tradition will not brake when I have kids.

How is this a high limit? Around here it's low to average.

Seems we're in the same boat.

I don't come from a very wealthy family. Poor people don't hate the rich, in fact I have a lot of respect for those who have made it big and started from scratch. I have zero for those who inherited or are spoiled by their parents because they tend to be stuck up snobs that wouldn't survive a day in the real world. Even if I was extremely rich I would not spoil my kids because managing money is a very important skill in life, whether you are rich or not, and it's not a lesson you learn when you get everything you want.

Yeah, with that limit, every homeowner in california is wealthy.

Can I ask your parents for money?
Unless you are a 20 year old female (my sister) you will not get a dime.

Agreed. My dad hasn't helped me nearly on the same scale as my sister (he's bought her a car, paid for a quarter of her undergraduate schooling, cosigned on her law school loans ($110k+ at this point), not to mention given her $200+ a month for 7 years.

$1m seems very high. It is also kind of hard to judge net worth. It might be better to go by yearly income...

If they pay for it I will get a sex change. I always wanted to have doors held open for me, and not have to pay for dinner.

It's not that we're annoyed by people because they have money, but the fact that children of rich parents (who've worked hard all their lives to accumulate such wealth) like to brag about how much their parents have- and in a way derive some sort of haughty pride despite not making the money themselves.

obtw, My parents have money, I don't.

Isn't net worth roughly = net income+properties(homes, condos, etc.)+big ticket items(cars, boats, planes, rare items)

Yeah I guess they do..my parents own two houses, both worth over 450K (they bought one from my uncle when he moved for my sister to live in while she went to med school, but she wanted to go to med school elsewhere - havent been able to sell it) - I think my dad makes over 100K per year, so I guess that alone puts us over the 1 mil limit..

My parents dont give me any money though..all the spending money I have is from jobs. But I guess I have it pretty good, since all my living expenses are paid for (in college), and I have a full ride scholarship to school, and a car with insurance..

An Example of someone from the super wealthy

1 Million = rich, not wealthy. We're wealthy because my family's income is over 100k/yr. That's still 1/10 of what you're saying.
