I'm kind of curious as to whether or not there are people that actually care what a computer looks like when they buy it. I'm not talking the quality of the monitor or the framerates hehe. I'm wondering because I saw someone at fry's buying a G4 cube and one of those flat screen, $4,000 monitors because they looked cool.

so Do you care what a computer looks like when you buy it?

Nope, function is worth much more than form. Of course I'd be lying if I said I didn't absolutely love the "Skunk Works" look of my ThinkPad, but that was certainly a secondary concern. Basically, all else being equal, looks come into play, but the numbers are the primary concern.

The closest that I come to caring about looks is caring about size; I prefer a full tower because I like to ensure that I have room for both expansion and airflow.

My computer is pretty because it doesn't have one of them ugly brand names on it showing it's prebuilt.

I don't buy whole computers, but I've started dabbling with modding my case and I can't stop! :p:)

Nah...looks don't equal squat, performance matters...I do try to buy a good case when I build my PC's though. Currently I'm using a Fong Kai 603 and I love it. Great case and as a bonus it looks good.

I wanna hit someone or something everytime I see one of those damn 'pretty' Macs. That fact that someone would buy a computer because it looks really cool rather than paying any attention to its merits just supports my theory that the General Public is generally stoopid. :)

When I shop for a case, I obviously am not going to pick something up that looks like crap. I am more worried about build quality and thoughtfulness of the case layout.. especially how things are going to lay out inside, and of course, that lends to cooling. There is no way I will buy a case if I disagree too much with the design and I am pretty picky (its that engineering mind). I guess that is part of the reason why I have a hell of a time justifying buying prebuilt computers... I cannot stand the difference in priorities that leads to the sacrifices I see in prebuilts. The desktops in my office are Gateways and Dells and I have spent a lot of time on the phone telling their salespeople, techs, and system designers they are idiots (usually a little more diplomatically). But the HP, Compaq, IBM, Packard Bell, AST (bleh!), etc, computers really get me worked up.

Anyway, I feel better after the rant now. Thanks!

I personally don't care. I prefer functionality over fashion when it comes to most things. Although, I've always chosen nice-looking towers and top-notch monitors.

I'd buy a tight ass PC in a iMAC if I had to. Of course looks don't matter. (iMacs look retarded)

I wouldn't really say I care so much, but I'd rather have a good looking case than an ugly one as long as function isn't compromised.

While the G4 cases are purdy, I'd rather have a blah, putty-colored case packed with PURE PROCESSING POWER than a PC that's "All show. No go." With my keyboard drawer out, I don't even see the box and it's buried under the desk anyhoo. Pretty cases don't make 100 fps!

My first computer that my parents bought for me (When I was around 11 years old) was an Acer Pentium 133 with 16 ram. The only reason I picked it because it was black and had a really unique design. =)

Sure... it ALL matters.

Performance, price, asthetics, noise, practicality... it all matters.

Looks are a huge part of the reason I chose my FK-320 case over other cases. But so are the other reasons I listed above.

My Case is the prettiest one of all :p

I'm being sarcastic BTW.I know people that would say, "I want to buy an IMAC because its pretty and colorful".
:disgust:

I still think my case is decent looking...I wouldn't call it pretty though :)

of course performance would be number one on my list
