EDIT: By rating I mean "G", "PG", "PG-13", "R", not "two thumbs up!" or "it sucked!"

if it's something i really want to see (ie. LOTR etc), ratings don't mean much. if i have never heard of the movie and my wife wants to rent it, i will check imdb.com and see if it's something to stay away from.

tough to say. sometimes the critics are just plain wrong and I will enjoy something that they gave 1 1/2 stars or whatever. i guess on the whole, yes i do care about them. if something is rated well across the board, i am more likely to see it.

(not a parent & somewhat care).

dammit. i think i totally misunderstood the question.

Not really. I'm a parent but my daughter is too young to be making movie-going decisions anyway, she's 4. Even when she gets older though, I really won't care too much about it. Since I'm an avid movie-goer, chances are good that I'll know about whatever movie she wants to see and my parental decisions won't be based upon what the movie is rated.

and lol at meltdown75, he's referring to the rating by the motion picture industry (G, PG, R, etc.) not what it's rated at Rotten Tomatoes. ;)

My son is only 3, but I've taken him to the PG Madagascar and he was fine. It was a good flick too.

Not really, R movies have more grit, but PG-13 movies can be enjoyable too. Last 2 movies I saw ( Batman and Longest Yard) were both PG-13 and both incredibly enjoyable.

Back when I was little my parents didn't really care about the ratings. They would let me watch the violent parts and cover my eyes if there was any hankypanky

I guess its strange when we allow our youngens to see lots of violence, but any sex is a no no.
