Sugar packets at Starbucks and/or D&D, Costco food samples, the Chinese lady that stands there with a plate of pieces of General Tso w/ toothpicks, whatever the case:

Have you ever abused freebies before? If so, what was it and did you feel ashamed? Were people staring??

Personally, I've taken quite a few Splenda packets from my favorite D&D shop to use at work

Hell yes. Back when Media Play was around my brother and I would cram all the free OS/2 Warp demo floppies into our coats. Good for backups at the time. A few years ago my friend took almost an entire display of free AOL discs. He was in a band and needed those DVD cases to hand out cds hehe.

I rarely take freebies. In fact, I get annoyed when Im walking in the food court at the mall, and I have to dodge all these people offering me bites of food. At resturaunts and fast food places, I take what I need and nothing more.

Those that take advantage of the people offering food samples in the mall annoy me. I've literally seen people go up and tyake a sample, and ask for more, and when they are refused more samples, the people get angry.

There's a smoothie stand in our mall that offers free samples. A couple weeks ago, I was in line to order a smoothie and I saw a family of 5 come up to the stand and literally consume what looked to be like 20 samples. And I already knew before they even tasted them that none of them would buy 1 smoothie. Trashy....

Of course, they're free. There is no limit on free unless otherwise posted.

Hmm "No - I'm considerate of others" is winning so far.
Judging by the poll results as they stand now, I'd have to conclude that this forum is full of liars.

Personally I take whatever freebies I can whenever I can as long as the person offering doesn't stop me. . .like at Costco and stuff. I draw the line at taking free condiments from restaurants though as I do not consider those freebies. I consider them courtesy for paying customers to be used no more and no less than is required such that you have an enjoyable dining experience. I consider stuffing your pockets with that kind of stuff to just be stealing.

I ate a sample pizza roll at Sam's club the other day even though I already know what they taste like and had no intention of buying any, does that count?

Only if you snuck into the Sams club without being a member. If you are a member and you paid your membership fee, pig out I say. The sample guy/lady is free to stop you at any time they wish. But they never do. They don't give a crap. Why should you? Every now and then you get a zealous one who thinks they are the soup nazi from Seinfeld but they are very rare.

Back before my Target got rid of the Taco Bell items on their menu, I used to grab some Taco Bell fire sauce when I ate there.
I did this for the following reasons:
1. I don't eat at Taco Bell, so I have no way to obtain these things otherwise
2. I would buy the sauce in the store if they sold it. In fact, they do sell their MEDIUM sauce in a jar in stores, and I DO buy it. But the Fire sauce is so much better.

That stuff is good on chicken. It is not hot at all, despite the name, but it tastes great.

Interestingly, when I used to get food at the KFC drive-through, they used to give me way more hot sauce than I needed. I'd build up a collection, then I'd stop asking for the hot sauce for a while until I ran out. Since KFC and Taco Bell are owned by the same company, in a way my efforts to conserve KFC hot sauce cancels out my Fire Sauce "theft" :)

But alas, no more Target Taco Bell, so no more Fire Sauce for me. I would not take condiments from a place if I did not actually EAT there, and I only took condiments from the Target Taco Bell when I ate at the Target Pizza Hut.

Haha... if I ever get fired, they'll find a drawer full of KFC sporks. I don't care enough to say "hold the spork." What the hell am I going to do with a plastic spork when I'm eating fried chicken?

No, I am quite the opposite.
This reminds me of once, many years ago, a co-worker & I were working in another state. We went to an "all you can eat" buffet. Both of us had quite healthy appetites and we each consumed 1 full plate each and went back for seconds, plus dessert.
When we were finished, I asked him if he was ready to leave, he said "just a minute" at which point he took his 1/2 full already plate back to the serving line and piled it as full as he could. He then walked back to the table, set his plate down, and stated that NOW he was ready to leave!
I got rather irate with him, and asked him just WTF he was doing that for.
His response: "F*ck 'em, I paid for it".
Sheesh, what a d*ckhead!
I'm an honest person, I feel guilty if I don't eat everything I take.

I was at Costco near a sample cart for crappy sushi (its filled with imitation crab mixed with some weird mayo sauce, tastes horrible) and a rather large guy ate a couple, then took out a pen from his pocket and offered it to the employee running the cart in exchange for an entire roll

What is D&D? Dungeons and Dragons? Because Dunkin' Donuts definitely shouldn't have an ampersand in it's abbreviation.

I'll take a sample, but I won't take a whole bunch. Same with Hot Deals...people who buy 50 to resell on ebay are douches.

Yea dude, I do the same thing with the taco bell sauces... I always grab a handful of them when I'm there to leave in my fridge, as a lot of times I make home made burritos and tacos. I've tried the store bough Taco Bell brand name sauces, but they just are not the same. The ones in the packets are so much better. Other than this I don't really abuse my freebie powers. More often then taking freebies I pass on them actually. But I do admit I am a sucker for those taco bell sauce packets heh. Sometimes at Rita's water ice or a Smoothie place I'll grab a sample to decide which flavor I want to buy.. but usually not more than 1 sample, and I always buy the product I like after I find the right sample. I really don't see people that often that abuse the freebies.. aside from kids. I let the kids slide, unless their fatties then I call them fatties in my head. But I don't say anything out loud. :p I guess one other thing is that I'm a vegetarian so half the food freebies don't even apply to me.

If I could find more useful free stuff, I might have the motivation to abuse my privileges :p but unfortunately, I can't find anything useful.
