Do parents have the right to discipline their kids by spanking them?

What are your reasons for voting yes/no?

MOST DEFINETELY YES

I think anyone who says otherwise needs help. Seriously. That is what is wrong with our country, parenting.

fvck yeah. it's payback time for all the times I was spanked by my parents!

(just kidding about that last remark though 😀 )

Absolutely.

You can't use logic with a small child but they CAN understand "When I do that my ass hurts for a few minutes."

ViperGTS has it right, a kid doesn't understand reasoning or control, but they understand "hurt"

I can't stand it when I see some kid throwing a fit and sometimes even hitting the parent and the parent doesn't do anything except count? WTF 1...2...3 go to time out? My gf's dad did this crap with his younger sons and they are monsters. now that he is divorced from his wife and doesn't have to listen to her tell him not to spank them he is more apt to swat their butts, now but the damage has been done.

They have the right to, but that doesn't mean it is the best thing to do in most cases, if ever. I think that parents who spank kids do it way too often. Doing it often will teach kids a warped sense of justice and morality since they will habitually associate doing something wrong with violent retalliation.

Wasn't this question asked quite recently here?

My kids have been known to catch an ass whippin a time or two.
Most notably, when coloring on the walls (After the thrid time I lost patience, and they got a spankin), and another notable time was when my son was trying to stick a knife into an electrical outlet. Naturally, holding the knive in his mouth to do so.

And for those preachers, it was a butter knive, he couldnt have cut himself if he tried.

yes.

When used sparianly it is a usefull tool. BUT it is not something that can/should be used for every little thing.

I got spanked 3 times. once for shoplifting, once for busting windows out of a church (yeah im going to hell) and once for calling my mother a b!tch.

I don't know what kind of kids you hang out with but I haven't found this to be the case.

So you can logically reason with a 4 year old? I call shens.

I think most of the time a child can be punished using time outs, groundings, etc. However there are times when a kid has to be spanked to bring them under control. A spanking when used appropriately can be a very effective child rearing technique. Just ask my parents. 😛

YES! when talking to the kids don't seem to work, theres nothing better than an old fashion ass whooping.

Let's see you apply logic & sound reasoning with someone who can't even talk.

Have fun with that.

Spanking loses its effectiveness as kids age, obviously, I think I was last spanked around 9 or 10. I remember it vividly, I essentially told my dad to go to hell when he tried to hug me afterwards.

I was a bit of a difficult child.

are you mentally retarded? what part of that didnt make sense? a 2 year old doesnt understand the complexities of life, so when they do something, they dont always understand why it was bad. but, they know that what they did was associated with slight pain, and if they dont want that pain, they dont do that again. have you ever been around a small child? id guess no based on your response.

Yes. When they don't have any abstract sense of responsibility and consequence, you are limited to physical displine.
