Re: Topic and take the poll. Assuming that it will cost you about 60$ to get all the channels on digital cable (-ppv) and you can spend only 60$ a month on DirecTV

I was gonna say DC as well. I hate the extra time that satellite takes to change the channel, DC takes a second but Satellite takes a tad longer!

I have Dish network and I love it. Many more channels than digital cable for a cheaper price.

Yeah, I hardly watch most of them but it's good for bragging rights. ;)

There's something like 100 "music" channels. :Q

I have Dish Network. I like it better than the basic cable service. I haven't seen Cox's Digital Cable, yet...

I would vote for satellite here (specifically Dish Network).

My digital cable BLOWS. The regular channels are still all in analog (pic AND sound). The only ones that are actually digital are the PPV/Movie Networks. The only reason I have it is for the program guide. If I owned this house, I would get a dish IN A SECOND.

Here in Canada, our satellite providers (ExpressVu and Starchoice) offer HDTV programming!

*edit* That and I can get all the channels I currently pay 60+tax for through cable, for 45+tax thru ExpressVu.

I have DC, but I'd rather have Satellite TV. Image is better and my cable provider doesn't have AC3 sound for the Pay-Per-View movies.

DirecTV. Being a person who's had both I can honestly say that having DirecTV is a MUCH better value than digital cable. Digital cable cost me $58 a month for the absolute cheapest package where with DirecTV you can get everything that package gives you for $34.99.

DirecTV, with the proper receiver, also gives you dolby digital sound. When I got my digital cable receiver, it had the nice "Dolby Digital" logo on the receiver but guess what? The box only had R+L rca outs, and anyone who knows anything about DD sound, knows you have to have a coaxial or optical digital out.

How about if you move? That's right! You have to take off work and wait between their "4 hour window" if you want to get things reinstalled, not to mention pay them another $60. If you move with DirecTV, you call them up, give them your new address and remount your dish.

DirecTV also has channels that I didn't get with my old digital cable (i.e. MTV2) and adding channels has never been a problem. While your digital cable may have these, this was one disadvantage I had with AT&T in Dallas.

Based on my personal experiences, DirecTV is a great service with a lot more advantages than digital cable, not to mention I had outages with digital cable on 2 occasions. In the years I've used DirecTV, I've never had one.

I have sat, it has good quality and everything, but like skoorb said it does take a while to change the channels, and a while to load up the guide, but hey I am very happy with it, its much better than the bunny ears I used before.

Digital Cable is a copy of settalite!
They even implemented same security (damn it). But remember this buddy!
With Dishnetwork or DirecTV you get way more channels, plus if you install all 3 dishes you'll be flooded with channels.
I currently have both directv and dishnetwork and I never was happier with my tv.
I would never ever go back to cable, cable has no guide or anything like that. One of my friends has dishplayer and that thing is awesome, its like tivo but build into dishnetwork ird.
Anyway I beleive those who say cable never had any settalite before.
I get around 50 ppvs on my directv and 27 or dishnetwork.
like 8 hbo's and many more commercial free movie channels!

When is Digital gonna become a standard? Is there any scramblers for Digital? I would upgrade to Digital if there were scramblers. For now, I'm cool with my Analog Cable w/scrambler. TEE HEE.

i used to have cable... but the landlord refuses to allow the tenants to get cable because it's going to ruin the building,*he's so fvcking stupid for that* we had to get DirecTV. We've also tried DISH, and they suck BIG TIME!!! We're VERY happy with DirecTV. =o)

Another vote for satellite tv. Better resolution, true dolby digital and HDTV capability, lots of channels.....and as far as changing the channel quickly, that all depends on the equipment you have. I have a highend HDTV decoder/direct tv receiver that will switch channels as fast as you can hit the button......

Yes, one of the choices should be..

Digital Cable is better but I've never tried a Satelite system because obviously there are quite a few people that don't know what they're talking about..
