I'm 177cm, 66kg. Hardly fat and bloated. I just don't like the extremely sugary taste of non-diet soft drinks.

They just taste too chemically (sp?) for me. I just don't drink soda enough to justify drinking something that taste worse than the regular because it's too sweet. If it's too sweet, I drink something else.

Diet coke may actually make you gain weight. I agree that it doesn't have any calories but I think it still triggers in some people to produce insulin (as does sugar) which prevents the fat from burning off easily. Diet coke is fine if you work out.

Do you honestly think that the number of childhood diabetics are even remotely close to the number of diet drink sales?

Also, please explain how my original opinion magically transformed into an assumption, because I must be too stupid to see it.

I know that there are millions of diabetics who drink diet pop to maintain healthy blood glucose numbers. I know there are millions more family members of said diabetics who make the switch to make diabetics feel more normal.

Please note that I said know. I do volunteer work helping newly diagnosed families. Having the whole family switch to diet pop is one of the things I always recommend. So I personally know thousands of people who drink diet pop just for this reason. Exactly how many do you know who drink it because they are obese?

they drink diet pop to maintain a healthy blood glucose?? seriously? Wouldn't it be more beneficial NOT to drink ANY form of soda/pop?

I live in the 3rd fattest state in the nation. A ton of people will drink several diet cokes a day so they don't get fat. Especially women.

I just can't fathom having to drink soda to feel normal. I have a hard time believing that more people drink diet soda for dieabetes rather than weight.

Or have your 4 year old son diagnosed with diabetes and switch to diet so he doesn't feel like an outcast?

Some people here really are morans.

yeah, the majority of people who drink diet drinks are parents of 4 year old diabetics.

I'm diabetic and I drink coke zero.

Diet soda/pop has 0 carbs. Your body processes carbs into sugar/glucose. So drinking diet soda/pop has 0 impact on their blood sugar.

I tried Sprite zero not too long ago and was very suprised on how well it tasted, couldnt even tell it was diet. Never tried Coke zero but if it has as much aspartame as the Sprite does its probably good also.

That better be a sugar free cookie!

Coke Zero is for people that drink/are use to regular soda.

Diet Coke is for those that like diet drinks.

I use to drink regular soda but went to diet. Now regular soda gives me a headache. That and lost a good amount of weight when I stopped drinking soda.

Coke Zero actually tastes good. It sucks compared to the real deal (Coke with REAL sugar), and it's not as good as the corn syrup coke that we get in the states ... But MUCH better than that horrible diet coke crap.

I wonder sometimes if people think diet soda tastes bad simply because they think diet sodas are supposed to taste bad. It doesn't taste bad, it tastes different.

Do you know the story behind Diet Coke? Pepsi was gaining market share on Coke in the 70s, because people preferred its taste. So Coke came up with Diet Coke, and they formulated it to taste closer to Pepsi to try to win back market share. It backfired. Diet coke started stealing market share from regular Coke. People were drinking it not because it was diet, but because it tasted better. So Coke decided to reformulate regular Coke to taste more like Diet Coke. Taste tests showed that people PREFERRED the new formula. They released it as a replacement for regular Coke, and people flipped out. Suddenly the new stuff tasted worse.

It's all mental. People hate diet sodas not because of the taste, but because of the word diet on the label.
