Yes, it did deserve it. The game was way fun, and it being "complicated" only made it more so. It wasn't confusing. If anybody hasn't played it, I would highly reccomend it. I am not sure, though, if I would have made it game of the year. It did deserve it, but not sure if that would have been my first choice.

BTW... does anybody know the answer to the contest question on page 3?

Hell yeah, Deus Ex deserved it. The story line was great and the gameplay was exciting. If you thought the game was too complicating, then go play a disney game. What fun is it if a game is too easy?

the runners up is Balter's Gate II and The Sims.. I personally think Deus Ex is a great game too.. heck.. I beat it myself and LOVE every part of it, and I didn't find the learning curve too bad, the first mission took forever, but after u got through that, you're pretty much set.

Although I think the GOY should really go to The Sims.

Every bit of the way. Just as Warren Spector's previous hit System Shock, Deus Ex was a masterpiece, even revolutionary in many ways. Interaction with the game world was more detailed and thought through than it has been in any other game I've played, graphical design was superb (despite the loathsome Unreal engine) and the way player was able to overcome challenges in several ways was just amazing.

Deus Ex has given hope that not every game that does well financially has to be a mindless one like Deer Hunter or Who Wants to Be a Millionare.

To the kids who think Deus Ex is too complicated: you would NOT have enjoyed most "deep" games made in the '80s. The RPGs back then were far more difficult than Deus Ex! Geez, I'd rate Deus as medium-easy on the difficulty scale. I spoze Quake 3 is about as though as you can't take it, eh? Girly-gamers!

Dues Ex had flaws: slow performance, stuff-in-crates symbology got old quick, some bad acting, lack of 'mo for the heavy weapons...but nothing serious at all. Great stuff and yes it deserves GOTY.

Yes. It was a great game. I felt like I was making real decisions while playing the game which gave it an added feeling of depth.

Deus Ex? Huh, not particularly fond of that one. Did "No One Lives Forever" make the list?

Personally, my fav of the year was Dirt Track Racing - Sprint Cars. Nothing super fancy graphics-wise, and full damage mode was not accurate enough, but the driving model is so superb that it totally overcomes any shortfalls in the game. List price of only 19.99 was a gift to sim fans as well.

Never Played Deus Ex... However.

Under no circumstance should The Sims deserve a "Game of the Year" title... Ug.

Let's see, I'd have to put Diablo II and No One Lives Forever up there for Game of the Year honors, along with Deus Ex.

The funny thing is I just finished playing through System Shock 2 and I enjoyed it more than anything I played this year! Amazing.

Deus Ex was a fantastic game, I'll give it that.
