Also, I would like to add my immense love of "what's Opera, Doc?". Chuck Jones' 1957 Animated Magnum Opus tribute to Richard Wagner featuring Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. Voted best animated short of the 20th century by smithsonian magazine.

LOL!! I had a decrepit set of LPs of the entire Ring Cycle, but it wandered off in one of my many moves. :(

And Die Walkure is my favorite, of course.

Hagen's my favorite character. Gotta love bad guys! :D

I saw "Die Valkyrie" when the Met used to tour. It was after "Apocalypse Now" had popularized the Ride, but I found the staging to be very dull. Just a bunch of people standing around a tilted-disc set, pointing spears at each other. I don't think I could handle (not Handel) the whole 147-hour long;) cycle.

I guess I'd have to go with Gotterdammerung, but I tend to view most operas from the point of view of an instrumentalist (too many days/nights spent in the pit :) ). I'd also definitely add "What's Opera, Doc?" to the list as well.

And if you think watching the entire cycle is too much, try playing it, especially if you are not a solo instrument! (Not non-stop, thank goodness - we'd all be dead on the floor if they tried that!)

LIBERTYorDEATH asked, "Lady Niniane, what Instrument do you play?

viola (primary instrument), violin, recorders and krumhorns (both key ranges), enough keyboard to pass the required tests in college, a little bit of everything else.

I did mention that I was a music major, didn't I? ;)

I still do some playing as my schedule permits - mostly church stuff; the last real "pit" work I did was a Christmas run of Peter Pan a few years back. I serve as the leader of the court musicians for the locally produced Boar's Head Festival - that's fun because we get to do Renaissance and Medieval dances, and my daughter has been one of the dancers for the last few years.
