Me and an associate are opening a Cyber Cafe in Colorado and are having a tough time deciding on games. I figured I would come to the ultimate source of geek opinion. With that, check the poll.

Thanks!

CS and DOD and stuff is a must, and Starcraft: BW and Diablo 2 expansion is always a good thing to have... WC3 too...

Yep. You're shooting yourself in the foot if you don't have it. Warcraft and BF1942 are also good ideas, and America's Army since it's free anyhow. If you want to try a new direction, stock up on a few MMORPG's(although don't buy accounts obviously); you might be able to get whole clans/guilds/corps to come in and play, much like Lineage in S. Korea.

If ya want to keep the place in one piece, you may wanna leave CS and HL out. Where did that video of the CS player tossing his stuff around go to? :frown:

The GR series is a good idea along with RvS (if ya can get it to run with no problems that is). BF 1942 and OFP are some games others are playing.

CS, Battlefield:1942 with RtR expansion and Desert Combat mod, Rainbox Six: Raven Shield (this game kicks ASS), Delta Force 3: Black Hawk Down, almost every MMORPG, WCIII, maybe Praetorians, Q3 Arena, UT2k3 (even though it gets boring quick), and some miscellaneous stuff like Gridiron for Q3 and Deathball for UT2k3.

With HL +mods you don't need to worry about having powerful systems, as it will run well on geforce 2 systems. BF 1942 will require better hardware though, = more startup cost. But it's a good one to have. And if there's a lot of people interested in mmorpgs there then I'd do it because those types usually play for hours on end = more cash flow.

Halflife and mods
Battlefield
Q3
Starcraft+expansion

That should do it nicely. If you have the bills go with C+C as well.

CS, WC3, D2, SC for sure. What kind of connection do you have and how many PCs? And what kind of hardware? BF1942 and UT2K3 play smooth on newer systems, load horribly slow on older ones and they suck up bandwidth. Invest the money and get good mice too, bare minimum should be Logitech MX300.

Thanks for all the input guys!

We plan on having pretty highend machines (athlon 2600s + 512mb + GF4-ti4600), so we're not too concerned about not being able to play resource-sucking games. What we *ARE* worried about is spending $10,000 on software. We plan on opening up with three games, and I wanted a sampling of the most popular; unforunately, AT doesn't allow people to vote for 1st, 2nd and third place.

We had already gathered that HL:CS and BF1942 are 100% shoe-ins. We're really hardup for our third game -- go with a MMORPG that will suck down people's time (aka Diablo II / EQ) or an RTS (sc/bw or wc3). Unfortunately, those results are pretty inconclusive.

Oh, and just because everyone asked, there'll be 25 PCs with the specs above, 3 servers, a T1 with some sick upstream peering (AT&T, UUNet & Qwest), with 19" Samsung 955DF flat crts, black unbranded dell quietkey keyboards and MS Intellimouse Explorers, all running on WinXP Pro.

We will be located in Colorado Springs, CO, right downtown -- we are supposed to sign our lease on the first and open our doors on either the 7th or the 14th (monday opening gives us a few days to work out bugs before the weekend).

thanks guys!

I'd go with a RTS, I just don't see people sitting for hours to play their mmorpgs.

I'd also say get a big screen and a couch or chairs or something and have some Halo tournaments, those are popular here.

Best of luck, its a rough niche!

i been working at a cybercafe for couple of months now, CS is a MUST. we offer CS, mohaa, spearhead, wc3, sc, sof2, ut2k3, nfshp. we running cybercafepro software and from it we got statist of most used programs. CS is ran 60%, 20% mohaa, 20% wc3. i am suprice so many here mention SC, nobody plays that here anymore except for like 3 guys plus me :Q .

btw, is it possiable to buy bulk amount of games from developers for discount price? 40comps x 40buck each = 1600 for one single game :( is there a way to buy license or cdkeys from developers for discount?

You'd be surprised. At the local internet cafe where we have BF and CS clan matches people sit for literally 8 hours at a time playing Ultima Online. Surprisingly no one here plays any other MMORPGs, just UO :p

why dont you start with 1~3 games and then have poeple fill out questionaires when they show up so you can ask what games they want to play.
