Mine's a couple years old: QPS external USB CD-RW 4x2x6x. It's slow, but it does what I need it to do (and at the time I got it, I needed Mac/PC cross-platform ability).

I can write & re-write at 8x and read at 24x. I guess I'm other.

Edit: The drive is an Phillips internal IDE. Not sure about the model number.

LG with 8MB buffer. I paid for this with some yarn and paperclips (i.e. it was VERY cheap) and it works great.
