i think someone made a good point though...

cats are generally for busy working office people who have no time to tend to their pets everyday, especially us computer eng/sci workers

dogs are for people with a lot of spare time, like children and students, to devote to them a la daily walks.

AHAHAHAHAA :D

Cats are toilet trained almost right since the time they're born. So they work right out of the box :) They're very very clean too. I definitely prefer cats

Well, not "evenly" but certainly "equally". ;)

They are so different and useful in different ways. I'd hate to leave my kitty to GUARD the yard or have the dog keeping the mice population down.

:D

Definitely cats.

You can too take cats to the park, you just have to get them use to it right away as kittens. Same goes for walking, and car rides, etc. And besides, taking a friend's little kitten on campus just as the warm spring weather rolled around was probably the best chick-pick-up-ploy I've ever done.

Lastly, dogs make for sh!tty lap warmers in the winter.

I've got two cats, but grew up with dogs, so I like both...I definitely like the low-maintenence aspect of my cats. And yeah, they do clean themselves and take care of themselves, that's nice. But the breed of dog I grew up with- Basenji's-are very catlike. Dont bark, clean themselves like a cat, very smart and intelligent (read: too smart to be trained well) ...so for me its a tossup but i'll vote cat.
